It was introduced in 2017 and wasn't applied retrospectively.

If people are having kids in 2024 that they can't afford to feed, why should the burden fall on the taxpayer?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How much do parents get these days per kid
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just checkedit’s a pittance anyways.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's designed to cover the basics, not prepare them for Eton.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn’t cover the basics though
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It probably does up until school age when combined with other benefits/entitlements, it needs to be increased for kids over 7 years old.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
U ever had any kidsπŸ˜†
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only the ones I could afford.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So none thenπŸ˜†
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It depends what sort of lifestyle you want to give them, better to be comfortable with 2 rather than skint with 4.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
some people are skint with 1 child and yet they still might have more.

Regardless of what you think about that, the kids still need to be with their parents, plus clothing and food though.

I'm watching C4 news, Trump's boys are already trying to make out Kamala's a nutjob.

There's already too many people on this planet, giving mother earth a wee breather from the abuse 7 billion hungry, all consuming people might jot be a bad idea.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Populations are increasing in southern Asian countries like India and in large parts of Africa. However countries like Japan, China and the UK are facing a situation where too many of the population are over 60. We can't sustain an ageing population with a falling birth rate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That isn’t true, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka are all under the birth rate

Our form of capitalism can’t survive a reducing population rate
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Weirdly, some people are against immigration and also against people having more kids without providing alternative solutions for the population problem.

It's likely she'll win the popular vote. It's who wins the electoral college in the swing states. I can easily see a situation where Kamala Harris wins the popular vote, but Trump wins the Presidency. Never underestimate how racist and misogynistic a large percentage of the US can be.

Yeah, that's the concern tbh. Being a woman and not white is a massive handicap in some places over there.

What’s that got to do with anything? Niger leads the birth rate but the fact that Mexico has a bigger population is irrelevant.

I don't think I've told a FIL story for a while. Well today, the FIL wanted to help with DIY. I don't like him helping as if he messes up a job, I have to fix it and he has a bit of a tantrum.

Still, my wife asked him to put a new TV on the wall in the lounge for us today and make the cabling not visible. He came round whilst I was at work to do the job. I left Mrs Tamwolf with instructions on the aerial as there is a power box where that TV is situated which feeds the signal amplifier to all the TVs in the house.

Anyway, driving home from work I get a call from the wife saying we need to buy an indoor aerial. The FIL has lost the signal to the TV, which has tripped every TV in the house. When she tells me this I answer 'did he follow the instructions I left', at which point I get told I'm on speaker phone and he storms out the house.

Turns out he told Mrs Tamwolf he knew how to do it, so ignored them. Apparently I'm now a nasty person for asking my wife that question, even though it was a valid question and I didn't know I was on speaker phone. I also had to spend most of the evening fixing what he did.

Guess he might not talk to me for a while which is a bonus for me.

I would like the child benefit cap removed but tonight wasn't even a vote on it, it was a vote on the King's speech.

Rebelling tonight is just daft and looks performative if anything.
