Except Japan hates immigration
I’m surprised it took until 2023.
Right wing grifters on Twitter calling it the great replacement
Why would you want to have kids in a country that’s in decline and with a very alarming poverty rate? Not to mention a lack of housing for the young generation to get on the property ladder, which means kids are living with their parents even longer.

Nearly every year since records began a century and a bit ago, more people in the UK were born than died.
In the year to 2023, that changed.
664k births. 681k deaths.
The net drop of 16k is the biggest on record (also in % terms).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite that a net increase of 662k in 2023.
Declining population is extremely damaging to an economic system, especially one that relies on services in an acutely capitalist world.
Unless they can get people off their asses and willing to bang like hell and raise babies on their own then the required numbers will come from immigration. As it is now we are importing nannies and nurses to look after our young and our elderly for us and do other jobs we don't want to do anymore.
One baby=One immigrant.

Florida preparing for a once-in-a-century storm a week after a once-in-a-decade storm
Reminder that this year Key West recorded all-time record temperatures (115F), parts of Florida were engulfed in smoke due to wildfires *in Mexico*, and Ron DeSantis signed legislation that removes the words climate change from all state laws relating to energy policy, bans near-shore wind farm development and cancels state-wide carbon reduction targets.
This, of course, *after* Florida experienced the costliest hurricane in state history in Hurricane Ian in 2022.
Unsurprising, I guess, given that DeSantis describes himself as “not a global warming person”.

He refused Kamal Harris' call earlier in the week, saying it was Harris trying to be "political"
Republicans also voted against the FEMA bill earlier in the year which would have provided more money and help faster. No surprise they're now crying on Twitter that Biden and co aren't doing more.
