The child tax credit policy going through at the moment could be transformational for many poor children in America and marks a cultural shift from the “government shouldn’t get involved in helping parents raise their kids” attitude that has been GOP policy for decades. The projected figures for the number of kids coming out of poverty as a result are remarkable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This.I'm sure there are folk who would prefer then taxes be spent on something else and claim the country can't afford it.
That Child Tax Credit is one of the few good things Trudeau has done and he did it early in his first mandate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Let’s see if it does what it’s intended to do.

45% reduction of children in poverty.

Welfare system from LBJ didn’t exactly help in the long run.

Time will tell though won’t it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Time will tell. Although undoubtably having some implicit bias, the paper below suggests a link between decreasing child benefit and increasing child poverty. One could reasonably infer the opposite is also the case:

I hear the tippy tapping of keyboards desperately trying to discredit the quote I’ve provided of the message from Biden to surge the border.

He made no secret of relaxing the immigration rules, a surge was inevitable. He just did it all too soon that’s the big mistake imo.

The USA is in a relatively unusual position of being a 1st world country that borders a third world (broadly speaking) country and is close to a large number of such countries if we broaden it out to Central America. Having seen first hand some of the poverty and indeed crime in places like Guatemala and Mexico (someone in the group I was with actually got kidnapped, beaten up, wallet and passport taken and left for dead in a pile of rubbish at the side of the road, he was lucky that a taxi driver picked him up and he could remember his hotel so taxi driver dropped him back free of charge) and given the land route through Central America is relatively straightforward, it is hardly surprising to me that many in abject poverty or in fear for their lives make the journey.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course mate, people want to better themselves.

By coming to racist capitist hellhole America and UK, lol...messing, but you get the irony.

Thing is numbers, as populations grow, South of the border re. American and UK and European borders and billions in rubbish lives in Africa, Middle East, India, China will want to move.

Locals will get restless in many parts of the first world, in future, and it's a difficult balancing act ahead.

Biden in 2019: The Fact

A video clipping of Biden speaking at a debate prior to general elections in 2019 clearly shows him say, 'Surge the borders.' "I would in fact make sure that there is immediately a surge to the border. They deserve to be heard. That's who we are. "We're a nation that says, 'You want to flee, and you're fleeing oppression, you should come,'" Biden had told during a debate moderated by Univision's Jorge Ramos in 2019.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sounds like the surge is a myth according to this, which would mean there is no stick to beat Biden with.

I'd prefer they didn't get the message to go to the border
-----
I must have missed this tbh. What message?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
JS will be along with a YouTube video soon that explains it all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't wait. I can hardly contain myself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could research what dems said on migration in recent years, I suppose.

What do you think their message was.

Keep out of America?

Stay away.

You could check out reporting on kids in cages and detention too while, under another admin.

It was widely reported.

Surprised you miss so much news, dude?

Get a vaccine and Your broadband access will improve, markedly.

Piers Corbyn knows.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you don't know what message you're talking about and can't describe it or even provide a link.

Sounds like you don't even know what you're talking about, period.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
More kids than ever in detention centres since Biden took over and more migrants trying to cross in.

Even CNN report that reality.

Why are more in detention and coming now?

Also, was it ok for VP Biden and Obama to deport more Hispanics than any other administration.

These are facts and not my opinion.

Awkward, innit lol

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even CNN report it? But, sir, I thought all the lefty media had a blackout on this.

American population twenty years ago was 282 million and now it is 331 milk in so a 50 million increase in two decades or a near 20% increase in a short time.

UK went up by ten million since Blair, but we did not prepare infrastructure, which in part led to a brexit vote and in America, demographic change meant the Trumpet support, in part.

That is why immigration is so sensitive, as we see even in post war guilt ridden Germany move to Afd after mass immigration.

Here is the real quote. Sat Navs is edited to make it look worse than it is. I don't know where these guys get their news. What kind of journalist changes what a person said and reports it as news?

“I would in fact make sure that there is, that we immediately surge to the border — all those people are seeking asylum. They deserve to be heard,” Biden said. “That’s who we are. We’re a nation that says, ‘If you want to flee and you’re fleeing oppression, you should come.’”

He says "we should surge to the border". Biden isn't an immigrant. He didn't say immigrants should surge the border. Surge to the border and listen to the people there. Those fleeing oppression should be let in. Those looking for a joyride sent back.

I though Biden was getting an easy ride from the media but they're just making up lie after lie and even changing his words because they know a section to society is desperate for such news and stupid enough to fall for it.

How many times do I have to expose this before people stop falling for it?

The beliefs and convictions of some people are almost always supported by a lie or some crackpot theory. You just have to look closely enough and like magic, the lie is always at the centre of it.

I believe that people who fall for this are not really duped by the media, deep down they know it's just a narrative, but they like that narrative. They believe it because they want to. They filter or avoid alternative sources that might tell them that what they want to believe is a lie because they want to continue believing it.

Sadly not, as Attenborough said, humans are killing the planet....overrunning was his word, actually.

And we are all immigrants of course...

You or I would try to get wife and mum.and kids out of a crap country if we were in one.

And if I lived on the border of that country, I might be concerned about our arrival in numbers.

Such is like and human nature, mate.
