“not that I’d consider Jamaica a luxury holiday”
Dude, not having a pop, but you are aware that 90%+ of the population of the UK would consider Jamaica a luxury holiday, right?
Many people I know would consider ten days in Mobay the holiday of a lifetime.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My understanding is that it’s the kind of place you stay in the hotel and don’t go wandering around in. Maybe I’m mistaken. Just a place I’d never wanted to go and as such I’ve no idea what it would cost.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, I’d recommend it! I did a bit of work out there and found it to be a beautiful country with top people.
Parts of Kingston are ropey, certainly. But most of the island is perfectly safe.
(Work put me up at the Half Moon Resort in Montego Bay once. Not a place I’d ever choose or probably be able to afford to stay at, but holy fack, it was good!)

Nah, pensioners don't tend to vote Labour
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a pair of pensioners my wife knows that have been incredibly vocal about the winter fuel payments on social media. So far this year they have been on holiday to Jamaica and Tenerife and bought a brand new car. Apparently though, losing this WFP is going to leave them destitute.
Previously, during the interest rate hikes, they were telling younger people they needed to cut back on all their luxuries. It's probably time they started taking their own advice.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Erm. Because for many it’s cheaper for them to go to somewhere like that at this time of the year than it is to stay in the UK
Hey ho. Imagine not wanting those in their final years to have any “luxuries”; but to suffer as much as is possible.
Fwcking La La land
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're really going to argue this?
Yeah, losing that £200 is really going to impact them. They might have to cut down on some of that spending money for their holidays or take less trips in their new Range Rover.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My “argument” fwiw is that even those two pensioners your wife knows may well be entitled to a luxury holiday to Jamaica; not that I’d consider Jamaica a luxury holiday.
I also believe it is far more cost effective for many pensioners to go somewhere like Tenerife than to stay in the UK during winter months and many thousands do, saving themselves a lot of money and at least being outdoors.
Your “argument” appears to based on two people your wife knows who you believe should just cut back on any luxuries because they had the temerity to suggest that during interest rate hikes they thought younger people should.
Now how are we to know that when they were younger they didn’t cut back on luxuries and maybe now have the benefit of doing so by having a trade holiday? Hm?
And should we then just categorise all pensioners the same? Hm?
Such a quandary.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point was about the hypocrisy of some of thesr people who complain about people accepting handouts and telling people in need to cut back when it doesnt impact them, then get upset when handouts they don't even need are taken away and expecting everyone else to feel sorry for them.
I thought it was an amusing anecdote of these types of people. I didn't realise you be such a loser as to dive in headfirst to the defence of people you don't even know.
As a side note, I believe they have also been sharing the petition to re-run the general election.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Accepting handouts?
Are you for real?
It’s ok for you to lambast pensioners because of two your wife knows and the basis they signed a petition; yet get so mumpty when I “defend” them?
And by “defend”, I offered valid alternative views. Who’s dived in again?
Anyways, really must dash

It's not about having luxuries though, it's more as a millennial I've been told all my adult life that if I want things like a house or a nice car or holidays then I have to spend within my means and make sacrifices. Cut out the pub, cut out takeaways, cancel subscriptions whilst you save etc.
Now it's the older generations turn to follow that advice and it's the end of the world, and it's not like we're talking saving up for a housing deposit here, it's losing £300.
I do think the threshold should be higher btw as £12k ain't a lot, but it's the hypocrisy of it all that's grating.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, u flapped ur lips aboot sumbthin u halve no idea of?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Give your head a wobble. I said I didn’t want to go because of what I’d been told by a number of people.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Alternative views about people you don't know, making assumptions that aren't correct and doubling down when it's pointed out. All whilst completely missing the point. Sure.
