The UK has been the worst performing economy in terms of growth and inflation in the G7 since 2021.

https://www.tuc.org.uk/news/tuc-uk-suffered-highest-inflation-and-lowest-growth-g7-last-two-years

The outlook for 2025 was terrible under the Conservatives.

https://www.politico.eu/article/uk-will-be-worst-performing-g7-economy-in-2025-oecd-forecasts/

Yet it is Labour that have flatlined the economy.

You with your facts and common sense.

Yeah but they've had 5 months to fix it.

posted 2 weeks, 5 days ago

To be fair I think it could have been any party at the helm and the economy wouldn't have been rosy in any shape or form next 12-18 months?

posted 2 weeks, 5 days ago

I don't know if Labour's plan will succeed but think they need at least a year or two before they can be properly judged given they're aiming for a longer term approach.

They're trying to keep as much money as they can in people's pockets and actually start building things, which is sorely needed if we ever actually are to achieve lasting growth.

What I would also say on the subject of growth is it's irrelevant anyway if it's not felt by the people. We were starting to grow under the Tories but did it make any difference to your pocket? Similarly Biden/Harris had consistent growth and ran a huge chunk of their campaign on that platform, but it meant nothing because grocery and other prices were still high.

Fackinh hell have Labour been in power for a WHOLE 5 months after a landslide victory because literally everything was broken by naked greed over the last 15 years and the country had no money, and they havent fixed it ALL yet?

Bring back Boris!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

They’ve managed to destroy any positivity in that 5 months and made it worse which is quite an achievement. So yeah; well done them.

Worst approval ratings drop since the war so it looks like they’ve got everyone onside to be fair.

They’re a fwvking clueless shambles and unfit for government. Things will just keep getting worse for them and for everyone else.

Austerity *permanently* wiped over 2% off GDP, costing half a trillion quid of public spending and 190,000 excess deaths.

Brexit *permanently* wiped over 4% off GDP, and left us economically isolated with huge losses to the City and our exporters completely hamstrung (15% of trade flow in the bin).

The Truss mini-budget, in a matter of one facking week, cost the country £30bn, half of the black hole Labour now has to fill.

https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2022/nov/12/revealed-the-30bn-cost-of-liz-trusss-disastrous-mini-budget

Five months into what is designed and explained to be a long term economic programme after a slight downward revision in short term output… “BuT LaBoUr HaVe FaCkEd ThE EcOnOmY!”

It’s quite special analysis.

Anyone who can’t see what damage is being done by the negativity and repetitive finger pointing by this government need to take a step back.

They’ve systematically brought doom and gloom to everything they’ve touched or spoken about and damaged the very businesses they said they wanted to work with to grow the economy. Look at how those very same businesses are responding to that disaster of a budget already and the worse is yet to come.

They’ve hit pensioners and farmers for taxation levels that are mere rounding numbers in the economy and so have alienated another large group of voters. In place they want to allow 16 year old la to vote. Fwcking shambolic.

At the same time they’ve bought off the unions in the full knowledge they’ll be back for more within months. And all to help grow an already bloated and useless public sector.

They’ve taken gifts and had their noses in the troughs as much as the last lot so that’s where “change” has brought us.

They have U turned so many times now they don’t know if they have missions or pillars to work to, not that they have any concrete plans as to how people will somehow be better off. Absolutely nothing tangible.

Bit aye; £22bn black hole which they knew about and said had fully funded improvement plans. Just more lies.

And now Starmer won’t back up his chancellor to say they won’t be back for more tax increases.

No wonder so many of their own party have resigned themselves to losing their seats at the first opportunity to kick them out.

Lied and cheated their way into government.

Oh; merry Christmas by the way

Protests have broken out in Syria over the burning of a Christmas tree near the city of Hama.

A video posted on social media showed masked gunmen setting fire to the tree on display in the main square of the Suqaylabiyah, a Christian-majority town in central Syria.

The main Islamist faction which led the uprising that toppled President Bashar al-Assad said the men responsible for the arson were foreign fighters and had been detained and that the tree would be swiftly repaired.

Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across the country, demanding the new Islamist rulers protect religious minorities.

I’m no fan of Starmer or Reeves, but they told us, repeatedly, including before the election, that this was going to be a LONG TERM project, requiring a reset of the country’s economic equilibrium.

Given such, and given the fourteen years previous and what they inherited, judging them after five months at the helm, I would suggest is a little… jobbernowled.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The OBR has said that their plans will not achieve long term growth

But the RFP* insists the OBR shouldn't judge them after 5 months

Unfortunately the RFP doesn't seem to have a link to their extensive economic research unlike the OBR
