So according to a Yougov poll 76% of the UK population want a new inquiry into grooming gangs.

Not one Labour mp vored for this (bunch of cants) and I hope their constituents give them hell.

Starmer and Reeve are toast, hopeless hypocritical lying rseholes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They voted against an amendment to a safeguarding bill to ensure the safeguarding bill passes. If they had voted for the amendment it would have held up implementing the recommendations that were present in the previous inquiry.

If Reform and the Tories actually wanted a new inquiry, they could have proposed this outside of that bill and not prevented a safeguarding bill from passing. What they did was pure political opportunism with no regard for the issue they are pretending to care about.

Following this vote on the 9th January there was a debate on violence against women and girls. No one Reform MP turned up to the debate, despite claiming to care about these issues and wanting an inquiry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly the response given by the Labour Party

You know that there is nothing preventing Starmer from authorising an inquiry right now of course.

Call it politics all anyone likes but there absolutely should be a full national enquiry.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree there's nothing stopping him but that bill amendment was dumb way to go about it and you know it. Would have literally killed the safeguarding bill.

It got the intended effect however.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly. It was a political move and was designed for one reason in the full knowledge that the bill wouldn’t be stopped.

It worked. Politicians being political eh?

Of course politicians playing politics but if it's such a big and important issue then why play politics with it?

Although I'm more annoyed at how the media portrayed it because they knew what they were doing with their headlines.

There isn't and it hasn't been ruled out. In fact, Jess Phillips has even said they would complete another inquiry if victims say that's what they want.

So if victims say they want another inquiry and Labour do it, as well as passing the Safeguarding Bill that the Tories tried to block; would you agree that is best all round? Or would you carry on moaning?

It’s what politicians do. All of them

I do believe that despite all that, the main protagonists genuine do care about safeguarding children far more and preventing such atrocities from reoccurring.

It’s funny seeing Reform and the Tories pretend to care about the victims when they pull stunts like this.

Just to be clear; I have no problem with people wanting an additional inquiry.

I do have a problem with people who claim their hasn't been one, would happily see a Safeguarding Bill voted down which implements recommendations from previous inquiries and that use it to further their own political means at the expense of victims.

They might want a full inquiry but they’re not getting one.

It’s politics and was the only way to expose the fact that there won’t be one. Everyone and their auntie knows it was never going to be stopped so the nauseating drama of trying to pretend it was at risk is equally as bad.

Yes of course, by the same right wing media that allowed Starmer to walk into power virtually unchallenged.

I know I'm wasting my time but I'll say it again. Just because somebody doesn't agree with you it doesn't mean they are wrong.

It would be nice if those on here who voted for the clown could admit they've made a mistake and that I had it right from day one. You'll feel better for it.

What they really need to do is tell the nation, very specifically, when each of the recommendations of the very facking wide, very facking deep and very facking expensive enquiry which has already taken place will be fully implemented.

On the TV, in front of voters: this is what the report was, these were the findings, these are the recommendations, this is exactly when each one is being delivered against, facking done.

Straight question: would you have preferred the amendment to have passed and the Safeguarding Bill be delayed, meaning the recommendations of previous inquiries weren't implemented. Or the bill to pass, reforms to be able to be implemented to prevent future victims and the possibility of another multiple years inquiry still be up in the air?

We all want the same thing which clearly is the latter.

Don’t let that confuse a political manoeuvre that exposes the reality that the leader of the government has (so far) refused a full public inquiry.

We all know that bill was never at risk of being stopped and we all know that all those in all parties do care about children’s welfare.

Maybe if plenty cut out the drama queen hysterics; it might help.

"Yes of course, by the same right wing media that allowed Starmer to walk into power virtually unchallenged"

and why was he so unchallenged....two things

1) The Tories were utterly facked & finished
2) Ed Davey is a fackin circus sideshow
3) We weren't having Nigel Farage in charge

That's three things...

I agree that the bill passing was absolutely the right outcome. I thought the exchanges in House yesterday were mostly adult and challenging without the usual petty insults. Both did well.

There should however now be a full public inquiry authorised by the PM.
