Where do England go from here?

I was watching Root's pre-match conference before the third game. He sounded so scared talking to the media, low, quiet voice and not really looking at the cameras much.

He doesn't strike me as someone that is going to instil confidence in his players. You need a confident person leading from the front taking the bull by the horn, someone that isn't afraid to upset the management which is why Smith and Kohli are much better captains.

Root for me is not captaincy material but then again, I have no suggestions for replacements. Going back to Cook would be a backwards step.

I mean, look how frightened he looks. His body language is hopeless. Is this the person you really want leading you in to the Ashes?

First of all, England go on to the next Test, then the one after it. Stoneman and Vince have done quite well so we'll see if they can continue that. Senior players who have been struggling might find better form - I'm not holding my breath but we'll see. Also I'd like to see the likes of Crane and Foakes get a go at some point. Then a full assessment can be made.

It's not done a lot for Rooty's batting....and what Cook is facking about at is anyone's guess

No one is surprised...i've second guessed this series so far with scary accuracy....down to an innings loss inside an hour today...

we have little better than we are currently using...I fail to see what changes we can really make

The seniors need to step up and sort their games out

Is Bayliss...the guy who apparently never watches county cricket the man for the job....

i'll leave that there

totally disgusting, no spine at all, Lack mongrel as the Aussies would say, they should all be sent home for fraudulently posing as cricketers, cook should instantly retire and Root give up the captaincy

Why doesnt Rashid or Plunkett get a look in for Test Matches, both have been very good in ODI cricket?

Maybe it is fitness concerns, who knows, but Plunkett would have been a 90mph bowler we lack and Rashid would actually spin the ball and try to take wickets.

Instead they pick Crane to go and carry drinks, I bet his series has done him the world of good (not), sat watching how not to go about an Ashes series down under.

I still can not fathom the thinking of having an Aussie coaching the England team, but nothing should surprise with Strauss.

First of all, time for Strauss to go along with some senior players like Cooky! Joe Root is NOT captain material and it is affecting his batting too..

No brain surgery as u need real pace bowlers and may be time is running up for oldies like Uncle Andy and to some extent Broady.. Also they need to groom for a spin bowler who may have potential and need to give him decent run. I’m sorry to say that Moeen doesn’t cut the mustard.

Also last but not the least, plz don’t hype ur team with few wins at home as ur team does extremely bad when touring overseas! In fact, ur team also looses at home to teams like SA so overall it’s not a great record at home either. It is high time to make drastic calls to compete at international in the longer run.

Good luck n take care..

Big daddy!

The selection has been bad. Anyone of Patel, Rashid, parry would have been better spin options. Plunkett should have gone too and all can hold a bat. Even Jordan would have lengthed the tail. Cook, moeen and broad are done for me. Need to move on from them as they have not turned up at all this series.

Good analysis Benny.. 👍

Bit harsh on Moeen, has he not been carrying a finger injury this series, but even so he should still have done better. I blame the selectors for picking Moeen if he is not fully fit and selecting the wrong squad in the first place.

The selectors don't give a shove. Nice 5* hotels for a few months in the sunshine (pity about having to do the odd awkward press conferance, but hey-ho)!

Moeen has had a poor series but wasn't he one of our best players against South Africa and the West Indies? He's still seen as a second spinner though which means we need a premier spinner in the side. Leach right now is that premier spinner although there's some pretty good young spinners around in county cricket at the moment.

I can understand the criticism of Root, he's obviously more of a joker in comparison to the likes of Smith and Kohli who you can tell wear their hearts on the sleeves and it shows when they're on the pitch. Perhaps Jimmy would have been the best choice? Who else have we got though?

The coach needs to go I can’t even remember his name he’s the invisible man we need a motivator he’s not one of those a lot of these players have to go they don’t have the hunger anymore cook and broad at least there must be consequences for some of these dire lacklustre performances

I agree on that, Bayliss has done absolutely nothing to improve us. We have improved on the one day scene but that happened before Bayliss came in and was started by Farbrace.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bayliss stick around until at least the end of the summer before we go back to Peter Moores...

I'd seriously considering bringing in Silverwood. The guy knows a lot about the county circuit and has worked wonders at Essex.

Essex benefitted from having Cook playing this year.didn't they.....he needs to find that form for England

posted on 19/12/17

They did and he does. Most of their batsmen were decent throughout the season but Cook was obviously the standout.

They really dominated with their bowling though and I know Essex have said there's not a lot they can do if England want Silverwood to be their bowling coach.

they went with the wrong aussie

shud have went with gillespie not bayliss

Disarray is the only word to describe English cricket at the moment. Never mind all the talk about selection, form or basic class/ability, double standards abound.

Ask one simple question. OK, Ben Duckett was a very silly boy, and has been punished accordingly, but ask yourself this. If it had been Anderson who had poured a pint over Duckett, would the sanction have been exactly the same? Others may think so, but personally I think not.

Also, why is Hameed not playing? He had a good debut series in India. Last I knew he had injured his hand but not returned to the England squad?

Hameed went downtown with his bf KP!
