I heard rumours that George Michael was a big Rams fan and if you dissect his lyrics carefully, there are subtle and implicit references to the 1946 Cup Final, the league titles in '72 and '75, Docherty and Mrs Brown and the play-off final in 2007.

I had a mate at Uni who went to school with George Michael and he said George was an utter to55er. I find it hard to believe he was a Derby fan and I this whole story feels somewhat implausible. The lyrics are magnificent though. Maybe substitute “fans” for “fan” in the final line.
Also my mate played me the original demo version of “Club Tropicana”, penned apparently after a visit to the City Ground:
