Poor Cardiff, not so easy winning with long ball in the winter when it comes down with snow on it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
got to drive back to cardiff with sheepsh%ggers spray painted on their coach as well
shame that
It's a certain fact that it is Cardiff and not Wolves who are looking over their shoulder now.
Draw for Villav Sheff Utd would be good
If either was to win, rather Sheff who are on a decline
It was an improvement on the last 2 or 3 but with Ipswich defending deep in the first half it was the same old problem of trying to break them down. The second half was much more open and provided a host of chances for Wolves to increase their lead. Saiss went close with a header and Douglas with a free kick to the bottom corner which grazed the side netting. Neves blazed 2 or 3 long range efforts over the bar and Jota was also wasteful with his chances. Enobakhare did his usual good work to create chances but finished with the normal weak efforts. Ipswich really never looked like scoring and their perpetual long balls are a real yawn fest.
Probably should have ended 2-0 or 3-0 but hey ho we still got 3 more points and another clean sheets
Thanks Gem. That was just like being there.
Much better than the last couple of games and today we missed a number of good chances in the second half to make it a more comfortable win. Ipswich had learned from Sunderland and packed plenty of men behind the ball and another 0-0 looked possible until Cav scored an excellent goal having done nothing right until that point. More open game after the break and Ipswich played some decent stuff of their own and created a couple of half chances. But Wolves has enough chances to score 3 or 4 more. As it was they missed them all and Ipswich were still right in the game when they had a couple of corners in injury time. Plenty of good performances today from Wolves with all the back 3 doing well, Jota causing plenty of problems and Saiss having a good game until missing a sitter late on. Neves was just brilliant.
Workman-like performance from Wolves who were pretty much always in control. Great goal from Cav but it is always a nervy time at 1-0. Had late chances to make it a bit more comfortable but didn't take them.
Was hoping for the "swashbuckling" Wolves of earlier in the season but I guess those days are gone and NES is back to the style that he employed in Portugal which was to not concede many and take more 1-0 wins than anything else. Would settle for that for the matches at Millwall and Bristol.
Seven point gap now over Cardiff which is effectively 8 points taking GD into account.
Back 4 played well and Saiss and Neves controlled things. Costa looked good for his cameo and maybe he should start in place of Jota against Millwall as he seems to have become affected by all the knocks he has been getting.
Off to down some Banks's.

Wolves 13 clean sheets in 23 matches, something we could only have dreamed of a year or two ago

have one for me too Duffer
another game where i felt if we carried on playing our way and were patient we were more than likely going to win. against blouse, sunderland, sheffield wednesday and Ipswich we've ticked along in first gear with the odd moment of excellence but at no stage have i ever felt like we would get beaten...or even concede.
yes, it's another 1-0 where we've not been at our absolute best. but unlike wolves sides of old, i am rarely nervous at 1-0, and if we get to 2-0 you know the game is over.
boly huge. coady had Ipswich's best attempt on goal all game with a weird back pass, but was otherwise sound. doc had a breather from recent hectic games but was always neat. never fantastic distribution. cav clinical with an excellent finish when given the opportunity from what i thought was a fortunate attack - felt that jota fouled his man on the half way line in the build up.
wolves will now see in 2018 in 1st place in the league no matter what happens. and with Cardiff, Bristol, and at least one of villa and blades dropping points today, it's been a brilliant Xmas eve weekend so far
Agree with you gb, I think Jota committed a foul in the build up to the goal
Anybody get the short pass completion stats ?

I didn't look but fascinating to see that over the last four seasons(didn't look further) the more short passes equals the better the finish
Likely.that Saiss and Neves made more passes today than the entire Ipswich team though

we hit a fair few long passes today looking for players to get in behind Ipswich's defence. i didn't think Ipswich were particularly long ball and hoofy, they just lacked much quality and were given very little encouragement from our scrooge-like defence.

Probably don't have the resources we have. Any team with limitations has to play to their strengths. Having watched sides over the years from non-league upwards, you realise that is a part of the beauty of the game. Can't all be Man Cities.
