Paul Joyce is reporting it, he's got good links to the club and doesn't tweet unless he genuinely trusts the source.
I really hope it happens, cost is irrelevant imo the money in transfers now is too ridiculous to bother contemplating.
If we can get him now it's a huge problem area addressed before the summer, no cl cup tied and we are not completely desperate at the back at the moment so he doesn't need to go straight into the team.

How much have Utd paid for Jones, Bailey, Lindelof? Liverpool for Sakho, Lovren? Arsenal for that German fella who can’t make the team now?
You can keep taking the £25m or £35m bets or you can try to get what you think is the closest to a ‘sure thing’.
If he proves to be a decent player and no more then the club have messed up royally. If we get 10 years of a high quality defender then it looks a decent price. Nobody knows right now.
Our defence badly needs strengthening, told thison here every day, we go all out and are looking to pay a record fee for a defender and are told all the things wrong with this 🤔

I haven't said that at all, that being said you do need to improve in that area and he should do that.

The fee will be crazy money, but you are looking at a player at a great age, with up to 10 years still left at the top
Isn't he 27 in a few months time,be lucky to get any where near 10 years of quality service from him

Signing VVD is a good first step to strengthening our defence, we could get a keeper in the summer, this would be a huge signing done in Jan and allows us to focus on the other problem areas in the summer.
It might not work out and he could flop, but he looks the part and clearly he's been Klopps number one target, he left himself short in the summer in the hope of getting the man he wanted, that was a brace move and has cost us at times and Klopps been criticised for it.
To Get VVD now is a big statement from Klopp in terms of how much he rates him, the owners having faith in the managers belief, and it's a financial statement signing for us as a club, nearly double our record transfer, shows FSG will put money up to rival the biggest spenders, nice to see that from a fans perspective

Perfect signing and will bring a huge presence to the club. Excellent despite what people say about price.
Money well spent on great attacking talent allows any club to splash out on what they think is worth it.
