GG, you OK. Good article, but I think the main problem being is if average players like VVD are going for £75 million, it is pushing transfer fees ever higher. The main criciticism is not Liverpool buying him, they can buy who they want. But the price he cost.

Is £75 million now the new benchmark price for any defender? How much higher are these fees going to be allowed to rise, before it all comes crashing down. It simply is not sustainable. If defenders are going for £75 million, then midfielders will be £150 million minimum,. and strikers upwards of £250 million. That is the way it is going.

Certainly needs either a salary cap, aint going to happen, but better still, a cap on how much any one team can say spend in a season. That should then mean a level playing field once again.

VVD is a decent enough centre half.. but is he worth £75m.. no way.. he’s probably worth half that..

I would be very surprised if he turns out better than Sanchez,Alderweireld or Vertonghen..

They also desperately need a decent keeper while they are at it. Not too many about.. probably cost them something near £75m to get Schmeichel.. Clubs will hold them to ransom now.. just like Southampton did!

Lovren and VVD cost them £95 million, and their defence and goalie are still pony.

Firmino, Coutinho, Salah, Mane, VVD - cost 170 million
Pogba, Lukaku - cost 170 million

We wuz robbed!!!
