Perhaps we should buy him for £15 mill and once we have his signature on a contract and then knock him out to Spurs the following week for £25-30 mill.
Sadly, Levy is too tight for that. He doesn't even wanna pay the £15 mill now apparently.
I wouldn't buy English if you can avoid it, most of the time vastly overated and have a price tag about 200% of worth (of course there's exceptions like alli), but for every alli there's a Luke shaw, a very limited player elevated to huge hype and fee, purely because he's left footed and English.
you can't really avoid it, you need A home grown/British quota.

Yeah, surely Chelsea with the large a acadeny/youth quota could avoid having to buy in?
why? how many good young english players are thre in the world.
We've already brought through ampadu, christensen(home grown) and musonda tbf but like everything you need a mix.
Barkley has some good raw attributes but he doesn't seem to have much of a footballing brain or the attitude to make use of his potential.
At £15m though, worth a shot.
As I said before, why we don't just bring back RLC in summer, who's a similar player to Barkley and would cover the same positions, and focus our efforts on a proper quality starting midfielder instead of spunking money on random duds like Bakayoko, DW and probably Barkley
what raw attributes does he have? he's not overly quick or strong and rarely bursts forward, when he does he mis controls it.
I thought £15m was pretty good but didn't realise he's out of contract in the summer. Do Chelsea really need him now or is it a case of not giving him a choice in the summer so jumping on him now?

He drives into space, can beat a man and has a good pass and shot on him (all be it inconsistently).
If he can better his decision maker, which as a club like Chelsea he will have no other option but to learn, he could be a good player.
No guarantees but as I said, for £15m....

I couldn't understand how we were linked to him in the summer for £30m whilst letting RLC go out on loan for the season.
Is there that much difference in potential between them - I'd say no!
Oh, Bakayoko looks awful. Other than a good engine he seems to want to be an attacking midfielder when he has the technique of of a centre back.
Because RLC isn't very good, as shown for palace. Just flutters in and out of games

He's doing OK, but overall still been poor, was not long ago your fans were making compilation videos of how bad he was and criticising him. Either way £35 million is a lot worse than £15 for barkley.

?
What's Barkley done, except be available on a free on a few months time?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Been injured, and still scored only 2 less than ox

Been injured, looks average in a crap Everton team and Chelsea are paying £15m for him.
Outscored by Ox the perennial substitute too

who is this moron?
OX- 11 PL goals in 151 games
Barkley for a worse team - 21 in 150.

I don't get you. off you go young one.
Waste of time in my opinion. He's energetic but lacking in footballing intelligence, gets goals but nowhere near enough for the position we'll probably play him. Not forgetting we're already stacked in CM and he's just going to block any chance RLC had of coming back.
From a business point of view you could say this is a fairly astute signing (young w/ high resale value) but from a footballing angle it's extremely disappointing.
Funny how so many opposition fans are falling over themselves to tell us how poor Barkley is etc. Bet they never had a bad word to say about him before today's news that he's signing for Chelsea.
