you need to score goals to win games. So goal scorers are important.

You don't need to keep clean sheets to win games. So goalkeepers less important.

It has always puzzled me why strikers are the most valuable and generally highest earning players in a football team.
==============

Because scoring goals is the hardest thing in football.

But it's a team effort to score a goal, and as much of a team effort to stop the opposition scoring more

Plus fans turn up or tune in to watch attacking players. There isnt the same excitement over defenders and certainly goal keepers regardless of how important they might be

It was more about the massive difference in wages through a team that I never really thought was warranted

They're the lead singers of football.

Unless you're a fan, who can name the drummers or the bass players?

"Should t managers get paid more than players"

I heard Alex Ferguson demanded he be paid more than the highest earning player at Man U. Don't know if it's true, but i wouldn't put it past him.

Put the best and most expensive striker in a poor team, and hell be made to look like a poor striker

posted on 11/1/18

Nonsense. It's completely the opposite.

posted on 11/1/18

Attackers/Strikers cost more simply because the players are better, if you look at most players in the league no matter what position they played most who come through the ranks are wingers/attackers/strikers.

Look at Craig Gordon there is a lad who made a career out of being the useless lump who got told to go in goal cause he was pash at football!

A poor team will be unable to provide him with the ball, and chances are he wont always be capable of getting it himself

That'll be where the old football phrase "You're only as good as your strikers" comes from then.

I remember them saying how poor the Argentina team was with Maradona in it actually. Ditto Napoli.

Surely a team is a sum of parts, and to be successful each part is equally important.

How many times do teams double up on a good winger, so that the threat from the striker is nullified because it's the winger that provides the perfect ball

posted on 11/1/18

I don't know how many times?

Only position that comes as close to striker is gk. Goals win games.

You can organise a shower of sh!t into two banks of four and if you have a good striker you'll always have a chance.

Yeah Ter Stegen and Navas are equally as important as Messi and Ronaldo.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
If every time the opposition got the ball, they came up the park and scored, then Messi or Ronaldos efforts at the other end are of no use

posted on 11/1/18

But they don't because you put two banks of four in and then give it Messi

posted on 11/1/18

Right but you could replace their keepers quite easily and they'd still be good. You cannot replace Ronaldo and Messi easily as very few forwards in hisory possess their quality. That's why they cost so much/are paid so much. Football clubs know this because scoring goals is the most important thing in football.
