N’Golo who?

Was at the game, and kante was the only one of our players worth his wages at the weekend. Just unreal. Does 3 people's jobs. Can we also have vardy now please?

N'didi really is coming on nicely, his passing has vastly improved, especially since Puel took over. Still only 21, can only improve.

Thought Kante was quite average at the weekend, but that is probably under the guise of having exceptionally high expectations of him after his tremendous year with us to be fair. But yes, he enabled us to play 4-5-2 during our league winning season!

Really? thought he was the best player on the pitch, by a mile.

As backed up by the OP's stats

ah missed the middle line. Either way thought kante was out best player by a mile.

Playing with the worst player in the PL alongside him remember.

For what it’s worth, I thought Christensen was your best player.

To be fair to Kante, he didn’t have that much of a chance with a midfield chasm in front of him with Ndidi bossing it (and James having a decent game to be fair) and Mahrez being left to run where he wanted - why Chelsea didn’t double up on Mahrez is beyond me, but there is only so much even N’Golo Kante can do!

Ndidi bossed it? must have watched a different game. I concede leicester were the better team, but in a plucky, 100mph raise your game type of way. I thought kante was the best player on the pitch.

overall we still had more off the ball, more shots, 7 shots to your 1 on target and more corners. So don't think you can say he bossed the game.

Guess it’s all about opinions

I actually don’t think Kante has kicked on since he left Leicester and that isn’t his fault. He should be hands down the best defensive central mid in world football - I feel like as hard as he works at Chelsea, he is often just fighting fires.

Yes I know that’s what DMs do but he is having to compensate a lot for Bakayoko.

It's frightening to think how young Ndidi is and how good he could become.

We're really going to struggle to keep hold of him if he keeps this type of form going.

Astoundingly...although we were better in virtually every stat during the game, you utterly pulled our pants down most of the afternoon...thanks for letting us have a point

I guess so, but how someone can boss the game when he was on a team with less of the ball, less corners, less shots and less on target i'll never know!

We were poor, but let's not go overboard. If it was a top team we'd played we would have said it was just an even contest. It's just that we were so woeful!

I think keeping hold of Mahrez during this window is not only important because he is on form and undoubtedly one of our best players, but it can be used as a sign of intent for future signings, other clubs and prospective world class players already at the club.

However, I think we stick with the mantra instilled prior to ranieri: if a player doesn’t want to be here there is no point keeping them; what I would say has progressed in this area is that perhaps we are now doing more as a club to endeavour that players don’t feel isolated as a preventative for it to get to the stage where they want to go

I still believe that if it wasn’t for Conte, Kante would have still been been starting last season at the club last year and although he would have probably still have gone at some point; it advocates the spirit at the club and one which has been commented on by several people both from and internal and external perspective

Nick, I said Ndidi bossed the midfield

Corners, shots comparatives between on and off target, etc would be superfluous facts when analysis his performance against midfield peers and competitors.

He didn't!! I don't care. He's a good little player. Maybe our scouts should take notes.

yes and no. In order to have those shots and chances and possession you need to win the midfield battle, get the ball back , start moves etc. It is where matches are won so they say.

“He kicked on enough to win player of the season last year.”

In addition to awards he was merited with at Leicester, he should have won this as well.

“, the things he does really well he doesn't have to do so much of at Chelsea. He's still the best defensive midfielder in the league by a mile.”

I think this is theoretically a good point and definitely applies to last season. The Chelsea fans in my family seem to think he is having to do that same job at the moment though.

I see Blackstarr’s point, but yes, it is probably quite difficult to analyse with a degree of certainty his progress and even then it would be subjective but I guess there’s an argument that if it isn’t glaringly obvious the progression is more gradual than radical - to be this would mean he has gone from amazing to slightly better than amazing! :D

His passing has improved since he's been with us imo. And going forward.
