Obviously typing when you posted Tamwolf, but I completely agree with your assessment.

I guess only time will tell if this was the right decision. It would be interesting to know who's idea it was to bring him back. Was it Nuno or Thelwell?

I don't think our other attackers will be any more unhappy than they have been during every single transfer window they have ever experienced as professionals, it is the nature of the game, new players come through the door all the time.

And if they are unhappy then it is they that are being egotistical and unprofessional and not Afobe.

As for why, because why leave it to chance, in this division in one game we could lose a couple of players given the attention some of them get and then we would have limited options, why wouldn't we do something about that while we can rather than face a problem in February, March?

posted on 1/2/18

Not sure i understand all the mystery to be honest, we wanted another striker and got arguably the best option available and the fact we moved for him shows you what crap was spouted last time he left by those inside the club and part of the fan base.

He didn't disrupt the place last time, he was a very popular figure in the dressing room and not a player had a bad word for him, some like Dave saying how upset they were he was leaving and that he was the best he had played with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Its not the dressing room he disrupted. It is the hierarchy at his last two clubs he has fallen out with.

That can be just as disruptive. If a popular player falls out with managers and the board, but has the backing of other players in the dressing room; it undermines everything that goes on there. We had similar problems with Karl Henry in 2012-14.

He has left his last two clubs following falling out with people. Not really a good sign for him.

As said on other threads, I am ok with a short term loan deal if he gets his head down and plays. Any of his egotistical nonsense and he needs getting rid of immediately. The last thing we need is him claiming he is a 'number 10' again, sulking if he is asked to do something he doesn't like, trying to dictate where he wants to play etc. and then others in the squad backing him over Nuno.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Re your last paragraph Tam, I think there's zero chance of that happening. Firstly Nuno has shown no signs of favouritism when it comes to players. If a player starts week in week out, likes Neves for example, it is because he has made himself undroppable. Far from being undroppable, Afobe has to first prove that he's pickable.

There's no chance either of players backing Afobe over Nuno. If that did happen before it was in a dressing room that was no where near as tight as our current one, and at a time when we were far less successful.

Afobe will simply succeed or fail on his own merits.

His league record this season ain't that good:-

Squad: 21, Starting eleven: 5, Substituted in: 12, On the bench: 4, Suspended: 0, Injured: 1

No goals and only one game in which he completed 90 mins. I sincerely hope the club has made the right decision here.

Missed this last night, but writing an article about the window officially closing before it has officially closed is asking for trouble <laugh.

--------------------------------------------------------------

If I have any kind of defense goldi, I posted this shortly after 11pm and according to the BBC website this deal went through at 0045, almost 2 hours after the window closed.

Just saying.

I never understand why people think clubs are right when they don't select a player.

It is a fact Bournemouth have a better record in games with benik startng than without.

Have you fully analysed the clubs he started against? If he only starts against lower end clubs then there is a reason for those stats.

Seems you are hiding behind stats again, whilst telling everyone else stats don't tell the full story.

Went to Saints v Bmth this year and Afobe played the lone striker role and was pretty useless in a 'back to goal hold up striker' role
I doubt he'll fit in a Bonatini type role but would be excellent in our tear away 'hit em on the break' style.
Glad to see him back as it does give us a different option and the quality players we have like Neves etc will definitely get the best out him

posted on 1/2/18

I like the fact that 'fobe is different to Bona....gives us an option...hated it when we used to have interchangeable like for like subs...if its not working with the first choice player, why bring on a less good version of that

Bournemouth have won 8 of 19 he has started and 11 of 44 he hasn't.

I appreciate that proves little but if nothing else it does show the other 'better' players don't exactly have quite the influence you would expect.

I think its ridiculous to suggest that a manager that is giving Bournemouth the best years in their history knows what players to pick. And the Bournemouth fans that have been slating Afobe for offering them next to nothing, well we all know they would understand the game more if they read stats rather than watched football matches

I would generally agree but you watch matches and would have given cav and saiss away for nothing

i haven't checked the accuracy of your figures WITSS, because...well frankly because ican't be arrised

but assuming that they are right

BOOM!!!

WITSS lays some serious smackdown with evidence that in the past 6 months Bournemouth have been half as good again without afobe as with him.

of course you can find all sorts of ways to interpret figures but the above seems a fairly strong indicator that howe has been fully vindicated not starting afobe.

like the stats i showed earlier:

afobe's last 5 months for wolves = 0.36 goals per game
afobe's career for wolves = 0.48 goals per game
bonatini's career for wolves = 0.46 goals per game

tends to suggest afobe is a different sort of striker but not necessarily a better one even in this division. and of course if you go off his form guide then there's nothing to show he is going to arrive as the messiah for wolves. bona also has 5 assists to his name and is clearly an integral part of the system we play in his support for jota and cav to get their goals.

some of the over the top fanboy comments on other forums are quite embarrassing really and i see them as being disrespectful of what the team has already achieved. sad that some still seem to support individuals above the club.

Right gentlemen, battle lines are drawn on this one.

Lets see how it pans out should be an interesting few months.

posted on 2/2/18

where's the battle ?
he's a striker with a good record in this division on loan, how can we lose?
if he's not up to it he goes back

posted on 2/2/18

Agree Wolfgang, I don't see any possible way we lose from this to be honest so those saying we could have baffled me.

We could stick a wheely bin up front and still win six more games.

I didn't post that. You have taken someone else post and put my name on it.

people supporting individuals above the club is something we see plenty of evidence of on forums. I think referring to that is more a statement of fact than name calling

And the comment came from gb not tam

As for the Afobe signing I think a loan is a good deal, if we had re-signed him outright for anywhere near £10m I think it would have been a poor signing as for the future we surely want better next season than someone who has been 4th choice at Bournemouth

posted on 2/2/18

I agree that all the posts about Afobe being 'home' and hailing him as a saviour are unnecessary and quite embarrassing for the club though.

When a player asks to leave a club because he thinks he's better suited in the Premier League, then fails to deliver, to me at least it says we shouldn't go back for him.

He may fit in and get some goals, but then again he may not, but it's the principal of him wanting out from our club that leaves a sour taste as far as I'm concerned.

We're 12 points clear of 3rd placed not 12 points off the top of the Championship and where does this leave Mir?

Granted the goals have dried up recently but we're still winning enough games to stay clear of the pack.

He needs to hit the ground running in my book to appease me and many others.
