“The only thing I regret is not getting a mortgage with no early repayment penalties.
”
Go onto the variable rate . No early repayments on that , well not with my bank anyway
---------------------------------------------------------------------
What banks that?
Took a five year fixed rate so think I am tied in for five years anyway.

A good lawyer like you didn’t follow the small print... but yes a 5 year fixed then you are in that until the 5 years are up unless you pay early repayment fee
My next house I don’t plan to be moving so a 5 year fixed is a good choice if the rate is good
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can get up to a 10 year fixed, with no early repayments after the first 5 years.

Ok-I’ll indulge you. Why do you regret that?
”
I’d imagine he’s wanting to pay in extra to reduce the overall debt.
Most fixed rates have charges on early repayment, least mine did.

You can normally over pay by 10% each year without penalty.
The benefits of knowing a mortgage broker...

Could be even better, my broker just spoke about the 5 year one, was a wee bit depressing when it turns out I’m too old for a 30 year mortgage unless I extend my retirement age
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some lenders will allow you to state your own retirement age-up to 70 years old?! I’m heading out. Anything else you want to ask I’ll get back to later!

We took advantage of the help to buy in 2014 as like most people we needed it to get the house we wanted.
The misses sorted it all out like but im lead to believe it was quite straight forward.
We start paying it back in 18 months or so, again no sure how that works.
So really my comments have been as useful as a chocolate fireguard

“House prices are mental.
Brexit has yet to have an affect.
Interest rates have yet to go up.

Brexit is an interesting one. I can only see house prices going down right after brexit. Might be worth the gamble of selling up before, then buying few months after brexit. Bigger house for similar money.
I’ve no idea if this will happen, but I reckon it will. Need to be a brave man tho
