Can we do a 3-4-1-2

No I’d go with Pedro and hazard(how hard did Pedro work yesterday!) or Willian and hazard off giroud. Morata can’t hold up the ball and would get in girouds way

How many games does it take to see Hazard playing as a #10 before you realise how garbage he is there, he's not a #10 or a false 9, he's a LW and that is where he plays his best and is most suited to.

And considering Hazard is out best attacker by a mile we should play to his strengths and play him LW. Giroud up front, Morata aint earned the right yet, too mentally weak for Barca until he proves otherwise

Morata is also a lot better from the bench, playing the last 15 mins vs Barca he could do a torres

All our other attackers should be used to free up hazard. The guy is our messi but with less of a foil that the barca players provide.

Morata's started and scored vs Barça in a CL final (and in both legs of the CL semis vs Madrid).

It's precisely the kind of games you expect a big signing to make an impact in.

Cahill was amazing in the CL final, doesn't mean he should play next week, Morata's only form in the last few months has been yesterday and that was from the bench. Too risky to play him vs Barca when the previous 12 games his started his been nothing short of dross, has missed 11 one on ones, and only scored 1 goal

posted on 13/2/18

I'm countering your point about being too weak mentally to play in a CL knockout game against Barça.

So was the cup games against Arsenal.

Hazard needs to play LW at all costs.. Yes both his goals came off the right last night but he looks lost at false 9.

Yeah, right. Roman splashes big with the League Cup semis in mind.

If you think his form's too poor to warrant him a starting place, then fine, but it's misguided to say he's too weak mentally to deliver in this kind of game when the evidence so far suggests precisely the opposite.

Didn't Morata miss loads of one on ones against Real in those games?

I remember watching Juve around them and saw him miss loads of chances

Just countering your point that he would be expected to make an impact in big games. So far he has not.

I fully expect us to go 3-5-2 against Barca.... Kante, Bakayoko & Fabregas choking out the midfield. Wing backs sitting deep (effectively making it 5-3-2). Relying on Hazard & Morata/Giroud as out balls.

Same gameplan as Spurs at Wembley. Catenaccio style. It's the only way we stand even a slight chance.

Courtois
Azpi AC Rudiger/Ampadu
Moses Kante Luiz Fabregas Emerson
Morata Hazard

Is what I pick.
Alonso ankle injury.

Kante as box to box pace could really hurt Barcelona.
Morata starting for familiarity, counter speed and big-game playing, goes without saying.

I wouldn’t start Giroud if Morata is fit. Morata is pretty much a quicker version of him.

Did he? Maybe your memory is better than mine, but I just checked his stats. Over 2 legs against Madrid he had 4 shots, of which 3 were on target and two were goals, so "missed loads of chances" would seem a massive overstatement.

In the final he had 3 shots, 1 goal, which is still a fairly decent return.

He also scored the winner in the Coppa Italia final the following season.

Nick, yeah, fair enough. As I said to begin with though, I can get his not being picked because of a slump in form, but not because he isn't mentally strong enough to play big games. He was doing very well in the league before his slump, also scored your only goal vs United, which is always one of the biggest league fixtures in the PL. Again, not the hallmark of a player who cannot step up in big games.

I can't see us playing both Giroud and Morata against Barcelona, because we won't have the ball enough to justify two strikers. I can see Conte playing 3 in the middle of midfield with Kante, Drinkwater or Bakayoko plus Fabregas, and giving Hazard a free role to play off Morata (probably, just ahead of Giroud).

Luiz in midfield just doesn't work. He doesn't have the discipline or positional sense in midfield, and would be absolutely crushed against Barcelona.
