I have praised Rangers U18s all through this thread and said they are as good as any other 18s up and down the country..it's doubtful they will take anything from these friendlies .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What if they all chipped in a fiver a head then with winner take all; just for a competitive edge
Would they take something out of it then?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Like you f8nnies would cough up the dough at the end of it...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
thats the point ... opposition will be ragin come the replay and for a change "try", just think of all that development that would happen after that !
Del..if I can go on what experience I have witnessed these midweek friendlies is to give the young bench warmers playing time or lads coming back from injuries.

And therefore wouldn't these back up player be giving absolutely everything in the match to then ensure they are no longer bench warmers which kinda negates your point of less competitive?

So the young bench warmers are not trying to make the first team and those who have been injured are not trying to get their place back?
You really should stop digging and just admit that it is exactly what Zach said 👍

It is simple, the reason for these games was to improve the players.
As an example. If we stayed in the 20s league it would mean many of the 16 and 17 year olds would not play as the older ones in the group would be first choice due to the stage of their development. You then have a group of guys not playing or getting bits and pieces here and there.
The reason we withdrew from the league was to ensure the older players in the 20s group got a stretch either through our first team or going on loan. That is why the likes of Beerman, Hardie, Thompson, McCrorie, Bates, Barjonas and the other McCrorie are all playing first team football despite being eligible for the 20s group. These players would not improve playing under 20 football, it is surely not for debate that they are being better tested in a competitive first team environment than an under 20 one.
So then those younger players from the 20s are given a year against quality opposition across Europe to give them regular game time against the best in Europe of the same age. Instead of 20 minutes against Dundee under 20s the likes of Burt, Atakayi, Dallas etc are playing every week against Man United, Bayern Munich, Valencia, PSV etc.
I don't see how that can make them worse players?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nope. Not convinced. A sharticle within a sharticle.
