Signing central midfielders from Spain is a treacherous business.
For every Fabregas there's a Roque Mesa, Iborra, and a Valero
Iborra has looked decent in spells actually, certainly a better option that bloody Matty James, but this probably clears up why he isn't playing.
Herrera hasn’t been playing recently either so maybe you are right

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The bigger problem is signing players you don't know how to use, or unsuited to the way you want to play.
Valero, for example, is an excellent midfielder who's had a very good career at Villarreal, Fiorentina and Inter.
With squad rotation wouldn’t we play him while he’s available?
Something like this isn’t going to happen next week.
TB - I think that's missing the point somewhat. Whatever the truth of the matter (and particularly so if it is true), a potential 6-year ban from football must have his head all over the place and certainly not on the game.
Play him if he is better than James/Silva in training.
I think it may have affected him, but I think the consequence of this affect on his form is the reason he may not have been selected as opposed to story itself.
If he isn’t looking up to speed in training then I guess Puel feels he isn’t ready to be playing. The argument against is that training isn’t a match and you can’t get match fit or up to speed with the pace of English football if you aren’t playing the matches.

So why name him on the bench then?
Your thoughts are possible but while he’s not been a revelation I don’t think he’s had terrible games.
Surely as well this is a case that’s been going on for a significant time and orobably since before he came here, it might have been re opened but still a skeleton in the closet?

Agreed
PL clubs often get it badly wrong when buying Spanish imports.
Forwards are another one, for every Liverpool Torres, you have a Baston, Soldado, Chelsea Torres.
I personally think iborra has been our best midfielder this year (after Ndidi of course).
I found it frustrating and annoying James was getting in ahead of him but maybe this tells us why!
agree, Iborra looked class in parts, but then in the next breath looked slow and a liability.
He was class for Sevilla and their captain so there is a player in there. The issue is whether he can adapt to the pace and aggression of the PL. One thiings for sure, he wont whilst his arris is sat on the bench. Hoping he starts on Friday
This seems a little odd. in so much as the case had been shelved but reopened again.
I get the feeling it must have been shelved before we bought him. That being the case have we a provision in the contract to find compensation if he receives a ban,
So according to this, the match in question, he didnt even play in !!

This could explain why he hasn't featured after apparently tying down one of the midfield spots.
With less dramatic thinking, could it also be that he's not 100% fit, any hint of an injury?
Iborra starts, what does that say?
