"What Are We Building Towards?"
A good nights sleep I reckon.
In all seriousness, I've no idea. We are devoid of style, passion and charisma.
3 managers since Fergie, the squad is still an unbalanced mess. The football, imo, is a dull as it has been in my lifetime.
I think when Jose leaves, we need a DOF who works with the management to build a balanced squad with an attacking mentality. I don't think Woodward is a great footballing man and the management have truly fecked this squad up.
The same problem existed under Moyes, LVG and now Mourinho.
The players must carry some of the blame.

The players seem to have followed instruction under each manager though. Those that haven't have been dropped or sold.
You are right but in quality terms they don't produce enough of it.
Are these players not good enough?
IMO I struggle to work out the amount yous have spent and what you got for it.
Pogba and Lukaku the best part of 200m. Pogba has shown flashes in 2 seasons, Lukaku looks utterly hopeless as a top class striker.
Plus Matic is getting worse as the weeks go on and there still seems to be major issues with balance.
All I will say is thank god MUFC isn't my only source for entertainment.

Just said it on another thread but I have no idea what your transfer strategy is under Mourinho. Buy Mkhitaryan who got a ton of assists playing with a pacey striker that loves through balls, only to push him out wide and bring in Zlatan. Buy Matic to free up Pogba but then play them in a midfield 2. Spend £30m on Lindelof and just stick him on the bench all season and so on. There just doesn't seem an actual plan when it comes to signing players.
The daft thing is we'll probably hire Someone next if Jose goes and everything starts all over with more safety first play.
Said on a thread last night that the only time United take a game to someone is when they are the far better team, and evel latley that's not happening as much.
I struggle to think of a game v a big side, or even just a decent side where united have looked brave, imposed their game and really look like they want to go and win the game.
I know the players and Jose want to win every game, but the reality is they don't look like they do in many games.
Can see why fans are frustrated when united set up to look like the inferior side in many games.
We've had 3 managers now who all seem more concerned with the opposition set-up than their own team.

Exactly, and it's very un united to be like that.
Of course you have to prepare for who you are facing, and Jose has always been meticulous in his prep for opposition, but you look like 2 different teams with and without the ball.
Could it be that this season is just one of consolidation?
we failed to make top 4 for the last 2 seasons and at the minute we are sat in second.
people will point out that we arent playing well, and this is true, but we are still there.
people will also point out the money spent by Mourinho, but he has also had to shift out a lot of deadwood in that period.
We lack an all action combative midfielder to hunt the ball down, snap in a tackle and lift the crowd and team.
We need a Naiangolan or vidal type player to do this, someone to be the legs of the team and until we get one we will struggle and be too slow in our build up.
this is something Mourinho has identified and will hopefully rectify in the summer.
Player wise we are not that far off, we just need one or two players to bring the whole thing together imo.
sometimes you have to eat shiiiiit and like it to get the rewards at the end.
it could be that Mourinho isnt the man to deliver this, but if he doesnt i feel the players there are more than capable of playing under someone who is a bit more adventurous.
this is something Mourinho has identified and will hopefully rectify in the summer.
Well he actually said Carrick, and possibly fellaini are leaving so need to be replaced.
He hasnt indicated the midfield are a problem and we want to strengthen. Just that he will have to replace players.
"What Are We Building Towards?"
Buying world-class players to paper over the cracks, instead of building a team with a playing style.
Will he dramatically change his approach thogh Dunc with a few more players?
I think this is what many united fans seem to be worried about, you could spend loads more signing top players, but if Jose cannot alter his game plan to a) get best out of the talented players b) actually take a game to a big side, then many fans will continue to be frustrated.
I don't want it to sound like I'm having a right go here, I watched the full 90 last night with a mate who supports Arsenal, both of us were really just saying how awful the game was to watch, the only good bits were when Sevilla attacked.
I do think 0-0 away in CL KO is a decent result, and if you go through it gets forgotten quickly, however you can pnly get away with playing like this, at a club like united, if you win things, and if Jose continues to play like this, and doesn't win much if anything fans will be annoyed.
Yeah it is a concern and while yesterday was probably the least to worry about there have been more worrying performances in recent weeks.
If Jose and the players can't raise their game at home to Chelsea on Sunday then I think real question marks will have to be raised. We need to see real intensity for 90 minutes where the players actually look like they care, and from Jose too who you'd hope will want to get one over Conte.

Took about 6 years, but it worked for Madrid
We just need the next Ronaldo
We need Robb's opinion. Has he been about today?
A huge concern for me is that Spain will have been watching last night, and DDG was brilliant again.

I dont know if he will mate tbh, noone does,
i think its a case of seeing who he brings in and then judge him from there.
maybe he just thinks with the players he has, that they arent quite good enough to be going hell for leather against the better teams.
will be interesting to see if that changes after the summer transfer window.
like i said, we need someone with legs in midfield who will run themselves into the ground, but who is also capable with the ball at his feet. and we havent had that since Keane apart from maybe hargreaves and herrera.
We need Robb's opinion.

Do you. Really?
The squad is there, while I don't think you have a good set of defenders overall you could play a more attacking style.
If Klopp was manager, for example, in his 433 formation you could play
DDG
Valencia Jones Bailly Young
Matic
Herrera Pogba
Sanchez Rashford Martial
That team could play a much more attacking and imposing game then we've seen recently with united.
DDG is only rated in the UK as Gary Linekar explained last night on BTSport. Long may it continue.
But the attack just seems to be nulified by tactics, united are a brilliant side without the ball, but struggle to be good with it.
