Speaking as an engineer mostly dealing with the mundane measurable elements of Science, Hawking's books certainly inspired a curiosity for the abstract.
Lived a lot longer than the prognosis for someone with his condition and he discovered a lot about the universe. RIP Professor, you will be sorely missed.
