Breaking news: One year ban on Warner and Smith. They also can’t play for IPL. Also Warner’s career may be over as per the Aussie media!

Also Bancroft banned for nine months..

That is very harsh!

CA showed ICC how to handle corruption.

Now I find it hard to believe that coach was not involved as we all saw how 12th man was sent to communicate about ball tampering..

How is that corruption? It's gamesmanship. Most teams do it but this time the SA TV people made an effort to catch it happening.

Ridiculous decision, way too harsh

posted on 28/3/18

It seems harsh but at the same time ICC & other boards can learn from CA. May be it is about time that any form of cheating is taken seriously and players should be very scared to even think about it in future.

However, CA should give strong reasoning why Warner was punished so harshly whereas ICC didn’t even charge him..

It’s Mitchell Starc I feel sorry for because according to @CricketAus it was only 3 batsmen who knew about the ball tampering designed to help the bowling attack. Poor fvcker has genuinely believed he’s Wasim Akram all this time........

Except that the balls Wasim used were tampered with.

Tampered by the pitch

Correct decision. For a captain and vice captain of a first division cricketing nation to sit down and plan to cheat beggars believe. A year is about right I believe.

posted on 28/3/18

just beggars belief players are so thick in this day and age with so many cameras about to think something as blatant as that wouldn't get picked up, yeah i'll just do something with ball and shove the evidence down the front of my pants, its something moe, curly and larry would think of

Funny thing is if they appeal the bans they will get absolutely slaughtered by the press. Bans are way to long for what it was which was basically rubbing he ball with sticky tape.

Other ball tamperers got at most a 2 game ban.

Faf Du Plessis has been guilty twice and not banned at all. A year's ban is disproportionate but once the Australian PM got involved, Cricket Australia were inevitably going to impose lengthy bans.

Jack very well said bro.. I said before that Australian PM should not get involved in such matters. Smith & Warny in tough situation to appeal with so much pressure on them now!

Yes I'm waiting for Teresa May's condemnation of diving by England footballers last night!

Also now Indian media coming hard on BCCI and IPL chairman since they never took any action on Smith & Warny about ball tampering. Arguement against them was that they should have banned them playing IPL before CA taking any decisions but as always sit on the sidelines to watch the show..

The one thing I find extremely stupid is how every single media, Australian or non Australian have been debating this issue. Every single Indian commentator has presented their views and also commented on what CA should have done or not.

When we had the fixing crisis in IPl not a single commentator made any comments on what the bcci should do. Only player to have spoken out was Dravid. And a ball tampering issue which didn’t even require changing the ball (as the guys were effectively caught before the fully committed their act) has created disproportionate furore among pundits and fans. In the age of social media and internet, most of these issues are almost decided by how people react.

posted on 28/3/18

Yes Viru.. Social media dictates now almost everything but it was kinda suicidal by these players to plan and implement with so many cameras watching them.

Also as a devils advocate:

To all those who say the sanction are too harsh; Smith and Co first of all hid their cheating methods from their own coach, as per their own cricket board. Then, they tried to destroy the evidence. Then they lied to the umpires on the field when asked to show the pockets. Then they went on to lie in the press conference as well saying it was just some sticky tape instead of it being a sandpaper. Smith still had the arrogance to think he should continue as the captain despite all of this, showing that he was taking this whole offense far too lightly. So in conclusion; a minimum one year ban was definitely called for.

This is just an argument for the punishment they got by CA..

posted on 28/3/18

And those are valid points. Smith and Warner deserve to be stripped of captaincy and vice captaincy. All 3 should be fined and banned for the next test. Beyond that, I believe is not consistent with punishments for other tampering incidents.

Sadly when politicians, sponsors and the social media mob get involved, the outcome is inevitable.

Yup Jack.. It's sad state of affairs when bloody politicians along with media get involved. Nothing good comes out these skanks for sure!
