Was thinking something similar. It’s nice to have a goal scoring central midfielder, but Neves does so much more - how many of our goals this season has he been involved in?

Anyone else worried where he’ll be playing next season?

I think he gets very few assists. It is his pass that usually opens up the space and stretches the opposition at the beginning of most attacking moves though.

I think assist stats have to be taken with a pinch of salt. They are allocated to the last player to touch the ball before the scorer but that is often a minor part in how the goal came about

I know the Neves goal has rightly taken all the attention. What about the first, great finish by Jota, but also the pass from Boly, he is a centre half for god’s sake.

Do hate these early kick offs like the one next Sunday. Apart from anything else it means I will need to be drinking my first pint of the day soon after 10:00 am. Surely a case for campaigning against these kick off times on health grounds

Agree, depends on what goes before a goal really and Douglas and Doherty have plenty of assists but i would imagine a decent number came from a Neves ball to them first.

Can remember a couple of assists Cav didn't get where he did all the work for a start.

I had actually heard that before Tino in one of his early interviews

I understand Harry Kane was appreciative of the assist that led to the goal scored by a strand of cotton on the shoulder of his shirt the other day.
