That's the war memorial on the village green which should not be used from sports games you disrespectful soul.
Everyone seen Glen Maxwell take the 1 handed catch on the boundary. Not a spectacular catch but his other hand was holding an ice cream.

Things you'll find in Village cricke:t
1. The fat guy in the slips you know you can nick it to and you'll get 4 runs
2. The 65yr old club pensioner you have to pick because he does loads for the club.
3. The new guy to cricket wearing black socks and Astroturf boots who you call up to make the numbers running energetically in the outfield

Commitment of time is huge. That's the issue. Out the door at 11 and back at 9-10 in the evening every Saturday. Youngsters want to hang with their mates, 20s and 30s often have younger families.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's so true, unless you're doing it professional it can be unrewarding.

I used to play every Saturday and Sunday however like you said it just takes so much time and also I have got myself more into Golf and from a purely selfish point of view I would much rather spend that time on a golf course nowadays.

Also the player of limited ability who is mad keen to play and helps out a lot around the club in order to to get a game.
The club 'pishead' who rocks up just before play is set to start, with a hangover and dirty whites, and then goes on to have a good game.

The annoying opening batsman that plays the entire innings and amasses 40 runs.
The tall skinny guy with a huge run up that ends up delivering the ball at the pace of an off spinner

Having to fill in as square leg umpire and always losing count of how many deliveries gone and when the umpire asks, standard response is 2
