I don't think he'll have that 'difficult third season' since that has always followed a successful second season, which you haven't had. He'll still be searching for it. That said, it may end up being difficult to get past City with the momentum they have and Pep being used to winning successive titles.

what about his third season record though at previous clubs Sideshow?

The real issue is we aren't really building towards anything.

Sure we have some quality young talent, but they're either not playing or not performing. We have no identity or style and the football is frankly some of the worst in the league.

I don't see what Jose offers us if he isn't competing for PL titles, never mind the CL.

“Add in the fact City normally go on a season long pisssup every time they win it”

True dat, can’t wait 👌🍻

Are we likely to win a title or champs league in the next 2 seasons ? I don't think so

Is our football likey to significantly improve in the next 12 months? I don't think so

Will Joses behaviour / attitude improve ? I don't think so.

Do we want to lose Martial and Pogba? I don't.

I'm not against Jose sacking IF we have the right replacement lined up which I personally don't think we do.

Yes the football is hard to watch at times but we have improved this season and it will be our best season since Ferguson left. I think on that basis and that I don't think there are great options out there to take over right now I think Jose deserves another season.

I know I keep hearing names like Jardim and Sarri but for me they are still massive unknown quantities and huge risks.

"I know I keep hearing names like Jardim and Sarri but for me they are still massive unknown quantities and huge risks."

I get what you're saying, however this kind of attitude is never gonna get us back to the top. If we keep taking on well recycled managers how are we going to change?

You do have a point, I personally don't know who would be the right choice. However I do know the likes of Ancelotti probably aren't a good option for us.

We do need new blood, an identity and somebody who unifies both the playing staff and the fans. Klopp isn't available and he has huge flaws, but that's the type of fresh air we need.

It's a tough one.

I don't want him to be sacked as there has been an improvement (even if it's still not really good enough) since he joined.

At the moment I'm still slightly erring towards seeing what he'll do in season three. By then he should have been able to solve all the 'problems' he inherited and it'll be his team.

I don't think we have bad players nor do we have a bad manager it's just they're not as good as we hope for. I think just injecting a bit more urgency into our game from the off would pay massive dividends similar to the first half against Liverpool.

Having said all of the above if I woke up tomorrow morning to the news he'd left/been sacked I wouldn't be bothered either.

Think we all got used to the stability under SAF and this is something we'll just have to experience like all other clubs.

Keep the faith fellow reds. Football can be a funny game.

We've gone down the proven managerial route twice now, and where has it got us? I'd probably rather take a gamble on a Sarri or Jardim because at least we'll be seeing some sort of progress on the pitch.

All valid points.

Especially the last one.

The thing that irks me is that if it was SAF in charge, you can bet your life he'd have Pogba and Martial far more developed and consistent than they are now.

Unfortunately I get the feeling Martial will go this summer and do a KDB or Mo Salah in the not too distant future.

This is true to be fair. In 2006 we looked ragged and had a great Chelsea side to overcome. We didn't do too bad for the next few seasons though did we?*

*I do realise that then we had Rooney and Ronaldo starting to get consistency and Neville, Evra, Rio and Vidic in defence as well!

Yeah I don't want Ancelotti or some other big name who's past it. I'm up for someone young with plenty to prove and maybe Jardim and Sarri are those managers but I still feel they have plenty to prove.

You could argue our 2 main domestic rivals have the best 2 managers in the game so we do need someone who can compete with that. I would have loved to have had either but neither were available sadly.

I guess part of me is up for taking a big risk and going for someone who is a little unknown and plenty to prove.

The argument for Jose was that he's the only one who could compete with Pep...

The stories about Martial and Rashford are a bit unnerving tbh and if it came down to it I'd rather lose Jose than one, or both of our most talented young players who would definitely excel somewhere else.

I don't care about Pogba though, while he's been better than last season he's still a problem, where to fit him in, how to play him, does he contribute enough for the number of games he starts?

I don't think this season has been a "sackable" offence for Jose, we have improved in terms of points, league position and results against the other "top 6" teams, we have stunk the place at times though and Sevilla, wow!

Agree. The sad thing for me is that I believe the board would have chosen Jose anyway.

I feel like after Moyes they feel the need to go for somebody with a proven CV

Which I understand to a degree. My worry is with Ed he will unlikely ever look to a big risk unknown and always prefer a big name like an Ancelotti because he would think it would be inkeeping with the global brand United are.
