I feel like people are going overboard in praising Wenger...

He deserves respect and to be given praise for his achievements at arsenal but best foreign pl manager ever easily is ridiculous to say.

Looked like he would run Fergie close when he first arrived but lost his way and along with his team became somewhat of an also ran

Stuck to his principles though so fair play to him for that

Erik , Obviously I take your point mate but I’ve not put anything like what I wanted to as there are no words to do the man justice he’s been phenomenal.

Look at my history on here I very rarely give praise but this man deserves every compliment under the sun

3 titles in 22 yrs and zero CL trophies......mediocre to me.

Wenger inherited his back 4 and has done pretty much nothing since.

GB Poor post, he was the first to introduce proper diets, changed players attitudes to their job. Bought some great players, went head to head with Fergie and not many did that. You missed his FA cup wins, his style of football. My opinion of your football knowledge has just gone down.

I’m only going off Ronnie Whelan’s book here so don’t shoot me down but he said when Souness took over at Liverpool from his playing stint in Italy, he made the players eat pasta dishes and drink only water

Because from his playing stint in Italy*

Wenger was more successful after that back four started to be dismantled.

John Barnes must have eaten a lot of pasta then
Thinking about it, there were quite a few Liverpool players who ballooned in that time. Michael Thomas is another who instantly springs to mind.

Fair enough Sturridge, I didn't know that. But it is generally recognised that Wenger introduced a different culture of eating, fitness, looking after yourself. But I dare say others pre empted him in certain area.

I don't know about players, but when did it stop being cool for managers to smoke on the sidelines? My memory is a bit fuzzy, but I can remember the likes of Hector Cuper puffing away for 90 minutes.

Wenger's even admitted to doing so during his younger years as a manager.

GB He also won 7 cups, two doubles. Not many managers won anything in the Fergie years. That is practically a trophy every two years. Klopp will do well to match it.

Yeah, for sure what he achieved was great, but would you really say he was easily the best foreign manager the pl has seen? If you think he’s the best that’s your opinion, but to put him head and shoulders above everyone else is a little too much.

Is it even legal anymore? Also not setting a great example to the players seeing as you can get fined for smoking as a player... not to mention sponsors, kids watching on TV etc. Not that I have much of an issue with it, it's just how I assume it is

Top manager. Went stale in last few years but still won cups. Built modern arsenal
