If we score, we'll win. They are known for their defense (kept 11 cleansheet in their last home games
But they don't tend to score many. Plus, if we score first, it will send them into panic mode and make lose their shape.

I am not sure I have had so little expectation of a result.

Just want the new manager to start the rebuild as quickly as possible.

Last week someone said they'd rather we were in this position, needing to win/score (instead of having to defend a lead).

Think that's a fair point and perhaps not being miles behind but needing to attack rather than attempting to defend is the best place we could be in many ways

Like the first game? Your theory might be sound if we didn't have a defence that can literally give a goal to a team that isn't even attacking.

Btw ignoring that negativity I do have belief in us somehow pulling it off tonight. Didn't see anything from Athletico in the first leg to be too scared of (yes yes they were a man short etc.)

We mainly need our attack and midfield to show up. We need to try keep the ball well in their half as much as possible. Can’t give the ball away easy and invite counters and pressure on our defence, more than likely our defence will buckle. Midfield have to do their job to basically allow our defence to do as little as possible. Our defence is awful, but how often do we also see us giving away possession really easily in dangerous areas. The whole team need to make sure if Madrid score it should only be through their endeavour and skill, not because we’ve gifted them something

If we move the ball quick and keep possession well I’m quite confident we can score eventually. We hopefully will only need 1 goal, we don’t need to go all out and leave ourselves exposed, at least not until later in the game. If Madrid score early I’d fear us just being continually picked off on the counter as we chase the game.

Yeah I know. Fecking ridiculous. Only thing we can try and do if not do anything stupid in midfield and gift them something, need our defenders out of the game as much as possible. Especially away from home they can’t even be trusted to clear a ball or pass it 5 yards. Ideally we can keep Madrid defending for much of the game, then hope we can nick a goal.

Tbh i'm getting sick of this Madrid are unbeatable rhetoric that surrrounds both madrid clubs afainst english teams.

Not sure if Liverpool will tear the facade away in Kiev but lets hope we do our bit tonight
