Spurs and Everton were classed as big spenders back in the early 1960s. Sunderland were also known as big spenders back in the day.
Remember though back in the early 1960s, Liverpool were a 2nd division club, Chelsea had just been relegated, Man City were a very average 1st division side, Man United had a few quid, but were having to replace most of their team post Munich. Arsenal were in the doldrums.
Fast forward 50 plus years, and the sugar daddy foreign owners rule the roost these days.
Ok....
Not too sure if you just wanted to share that information or you were alluding to something?

Bit of both really. We denounce (myself included) the money power of City et al, but there was a time when we outspent everyone, which some of us forget.
Whilst the comparisons are not quite a level playing field, £190,000 in those days only equates to around £1m in today's money, which Alexis Sanchez gets in two weeks.
It was really just to show how many British transfer records we were breaking at the time, compared to how we are now operated.

Grovvy getting owned on this one.
It's like the funny chant Arsenal fans said to Huddersfield the other week "Herbert Chapman, he left cos your sh*t". Whereas the truth was Huddersfield were better than Arsenal at the time but he doubled his wages going to Arsenal.

Liverpool had never won the FA Cup, a European Trophy or the league cup in the early 1960s even when they were promoted. Most of their success came over a 10-15 year period mid 1970s to 1980s.

No I know that mate. I just don`t get all this my club is bigger than yours nonsense. Right now Spurs are a better Premier team than Liverpool, but they shade the cup games. Going back 40 or 50 years to prove you were a better team is very very petty.
In the second decade of the 21st century Spurs are as good, if not actually better than Liverpool.
Bit of both really. We denounce (myself included) the money power of City et al, but there was a time when we outspent everyone, which some of us forget.
-------------------------------------------
This is very true Greavsie as the likes of Brummie have alluded to on occasions on here before now. I myself used to be green with envy when Spurs were splashing the cash on the likes of Steve Archibald etc. in the early 80's and we hadn't got a pot to pii iiss in at the time.
Hi Chelsea.....................I think it is all cyclical anyway and all clubs go through it.
Hopefully I will not see Spurs relegated again in my lifetime. But football and life is strange enough for anything to happen
I can't see that happening to Spurs personally, the future for you guys currently looks very bright, but as you say long term one can never tell how the chips of fortune can fall.
I remember being very optimistic when Mears announced in 1972 that we were gonna be the first Club to build a 60,000 all seater stadium, got the planning permission and everything and then the playing side of the Club collapsed like a pack of cards and we were relegated (as I am sure older Spurs fans remember) within 3 years of building the first part of that dream and it took about 2 decades for us to recover from that. Who could have foreseen that at the time?

Summer, Spurs always had a few quid to flash about, but the league was still a fairly level field from top to bottom. Problem now the mega money in the game has made it a very unequal field in the Prem.
