A lot of it is down to greed, most high profile players finish their careers with millions in the bank but that's not enough for them, they need more more more.
Now i'm not saying they shouldn't try to grow their money, but not to the extent that if something goes wrong they are broke.

Many keep the living the lifestyle when no longer earning the money. It runs out fast.
Very few I’d imagine are educated enough or well enough looked after to have investments which will sustain that standard of living after their playing contracts dry up.
Sad to see but they should be more responsible.

At what point do people take responsibility for their own actions 🤔

Spot on curly
I’ll never understand how so many seem to end up on this road - greed ? Surely to fack if you end up with 80 grand in yer account each month you can just spend what you need each month and leave the rest - it’s hardly feckin rocket science
Aye but is he still James McFadden if he he doesn’t pay and goes bankrupt ?

Doesn’t strike me as being a stupid guy or one with high level living
Has he been ripped off ?
Right I’m being daft but
What amount of money did he earn that was not PAYE and had tax taken at source ?

The so called agents are in place to ensure they don't get ripped off by the clubs....thereby leaving them more to have a go at ! I find it incredible that these players continually end up with nothing after years of earning millions......don't they have any common sense ??
So he pays money to a personal pension
And other tax free stuff
My issue is that someone like James would have earned the vast majority of his money directly with an employer
The employers would pay tax at source and make both their own and his contributions
Where do folk make all this tax free money that subsequently becomes taxable
If it’s msking you bankrupt then it’s a lot
I guess
I guess it's on other incomes like sponsorship etc but this is a major problem.....up to 40% of footballers go bankrupt !!! FFS you'd think some would say..." I'm not going to do that ".

See what happened was the royal family. As duke pointed out at the weekend, they give people something to aspire to.
James obviously saw them getting money for nothing and decided to work his way through the class system.
