I love the way that buying someone who doesn't play in the same position will affect Foden (and no doubt Diaz). Buying Ederson must have had a disastrous effect as well. I think there are a couple of new staff in the accounts team, that will also have set him back quite a bit.

Foden at the moment is just another kid with a dream nothing more

Seems to be the new thing where people think young players have to play every week, that can have a detrimental impact as much as a positive one.

Not really, its kinda correct, if you look at the german & spanish national teams, their young players have alot more top flight games then any on the english lads of the same age

No they don’t, not at the age Foden is. Sane hadn’t even made his professional debut. They have much better youth leagues. I can’t think of any player in either squad that is younger than 22 thinking about it?

the german kids have played alot more 1st div games, the england u21s is mainly top club youth products who barely have a handful of top div appearances

(foden is young so dont mean him in partiuclar, its just a problem in general for young english talent that they dont get alot of first team games)

Soooooo, Foden.

Not really heard much about this kid until this year. Where is he at in his development? Is he the real deal and ready for a premier league loan, or is he way away from that?

Why are we getting so het up about him not playing?

Ok I think we’re talking cross purposes here, I was talking about Fodens age rather than 21. By the time he gets to that stage, I’d expect him to have broken through a lot more.

My point was more the age he is now, I’m more happy with how Guardiola is using him - training fully with the first team and getting game time at the right moments where he can try things and not worry.

The age you’re talking about, we are playing Sane and did Sterling.

To be fair Mahrez is a different type of player to Sterling. He's trickier in confined areas which is what City need given that everyone is going to park the bus next season (even more so than last season).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mahrez is poor when teams park the bus. He needs space and lots of it. When he gets that then he can be unbelievable, but put someone on him or defend deep in numbers then Mahrez usually goes missing for the entire game.

Consistency is his biggest problem. Still a massive loss for us though and Leicester fans have been dreading this moment for 2 years

What happened to Patrick Roberts?

I dont want young English players playing loads in their teens.

The game is littered with players who played about 100 first team games by the time they're 20 and ended up being injury prone.

Top of my head Fowler, Owen, Wislhere, Ox, Bale, Torres and Pato (which is a bit of a sad story especially really).

Fair comment. Everyone seems to accept that boxers can go a bout too far. But when it comes to young footballers their expected to break through at 16, score the winner in the FA cup final and commit themselves to your club until they retire at 37.

As in the break our record transfer fee? If it is 75 million total, then yes it would

posted on 30/5/18

And considering some other purchases, I agree that we’ve actually got a lot of value for money out of most of our transfers!

We haven’t really bought from the top end much though, we’ve bought the best players from clubs a slight level down (or still young enough they aren’t at peak value).

Until anything happens Dublin it's just paper talk so impossible to answer your question.

A great loss to us but we all know it's coming.

More importantly it would smash by some distance our record outgoing transfer deal.

(Sad to see him leave but he'll depart with my best wishes - what a fantastically skilled player).

Sounds like it's on – Beeb now reporting City close to signing Mahrez for 'around £60m'.

Could just be the beeb being days behind the curve as ever, but they don't usually post without some substance.

posted on 31/5/18

yeah they wouldnt post it on the front page if it wasnt happenng

£60m cash with £15m in add ons?

Not much information coming out
Is pep looking for someone else ?
Maybe waiting to see what ronaldo or bale
Are doing, although if mahrez is there record signing those two would blow it out the water,
Is mahrez going to left sulking again??
No one is challenging pep for his signature
Not at £75 million 🤔
