A lot will boil down to who settles best in Russia and I struggle to see some of the south American nations doing so.
Spain for me as their defence is probably the stongest, excellent creative midfielders and the attack has more than enough to trouble opposition.
I can't see Rami and Umtiti of France being a defensive force, Belgium are nothing special just a bunch of names who people bum way, way too hard due to overexposure in the PL. The Argies have lost their first choice keeper and defensively will be exposed I would think. Messi's last real chance though so maybe.
Brazil would be my second choice as it's been 16 years since they last won which is a long time for them and it seems more of a "normal" Brazil team than 4 years ago.
Germany are obviously very strong but I don't know the team/players well enough to say if they are as good as 2014. Not many sides retain the cup either but cant really hold that against them.
I cant find a fault with Cortouis, Vertonghen, Audewiereld, Kompany defensively. Don't get me started on the attacking options. Way better than France imo
I agree with RJ in that the Belgians are overrated due to the prem tag they play under.
They are a decent side for sure but not world heaters and wouldn't be surprised if they bomb out by the second round in the slightest.
I like Belgium but they had all the same names at WC2014 and Euro 2016 and did absolutely nothing yet people raved about them giving them the title of "dark horse of the tournament" which isn't the case they had just been cr@p for years.
Assuming they get out the group they will most likely play Columbia or Poland (with hopefully us playing the other.). Both of those countries would be a proper test and then after that would be (probably) Brazil or Germany.
We're both screwed.

Germany, Holland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, France etc etc..Not interested in Brasil or Argentina.Over-rated massively and mostly cheaters and cloggers. European Footy is far better.
The World Cup is wide open, no outstanding teams. Even England have a chance.

Everyone are banging on about France. The real form team to watch in this WC are going to show the French up on just the second day of matches of the WC.
The Socceroos just thrashed the Czech republic 4-0 playing scything counter attacking football. What made it more impressive was that their talisman record goal scorer didn't even play.
I'd expect France to sneak through to the next round from Group B behind the undefeated Antipodean athletes. Bookmark this.

Brazil staus as grate entertainers is not wholly deservd
only in 58, 70 & 82 were they any more fun than other teams.
Germany have been historically the great world cup entertainers as have scored and conceded the most gols and have been involved in the majority of grate workd cup games, along with Italy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would disagree. In 1950 they were unbelievable, it was their entertaining nature that cost them the World Cup when all they needed was a draw...
They were pretty entertaining in 62 as well although not as impressive without Pele.
In 2002 they were excellent and Ronaldo was an absolute joy to watch. You would have to say 2014 was entertaining for all the wrong reasons!
Germany on the other hand have been involved in some of the worst world cup games ever. The 1990 final was appalling. 2014 wasn't much better. They are just clinical really - although their comeback in 1954 and 1974 was excellent
To answer the OP - I'm looking forward to seeing them. In Tite they have re-discovered themselves again after the Scolari and Dunga car crash
There is a long way to go to get back to the invincibility the Brazilians used to have but their squad on paper is superb. I don't expect them to win it, think it will be Germany once again unfortunately, but expect Brazil to be close along with Argentina

Belgium have an awesome XI but France have the best squad imo. Brazil lie somewhere in between and start the tournament in amazing form.
Germany and Spain will be interesting. Both are coming in with less established starting XI's, but both have well established styles and consistency which make them hard to write off. Personally I think Spain will struggle to score goals against the big teams, while Germany may be rocky at the back.
Portugal have every chance of drawing their way to the finals again.
France & Brazil favourites for me. Belgium, Spain, Germany after that. Everything points to Argentina struggling, but surely sooner or later that attacking talent has to deliver?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Messi will be going hell for leather to put his name on the trophy as international football has been the one main area of negative comparison in relation to Ronaldo.
We saw this with the last game of qualification in which Messi played an absolute blinder and bagged a hat-trick.
It's just whether Messi can carry a team through a whole tournament (assuming the other attacking talents don't show up or gel).
Brazil are always one of the better teams to watch, even when not having a vintage squad.

I look forward to France now like I did when Brazil had their great pomp players like Socarates, Zico, Romario, Bebeto, the 3 Rs etc. Only Neymar falls into that bracket.
Can't wait to see Griezmann, Mbappe and Dembele perform.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've seen him play more no doubt but what I've seen of him, his name doesn't belong with theirs. I think he's football's most overrated player based on what I've seen.
Socrates and Zico, man, those were THE DAYS DJ
I’d say that’s a bit harsh on Neymar.
Stick a YouTube video of him on
The airport advert had lots of great players also. Roberto Carlos was a great player. And I liked Denilson although he didn’t fulfil potential I guess.
