Which could all be equal.
The best suggestion I heard was scrap draws and have penalties.
This would mean there’d be a definitive winner should it come to head to head.
I agree with the OP, just wish I can think of a better solution. I'm sure there is one.
Shots on target in tournament
Schedule a playoff day designated to a potential head to head decider.
I'd be absolutely destraught if I were Senegal πΈπ³

Sending off for Colombia after 3 mins seems to have had a massive effect on this group

Well actually if its 3 pts for a win then what happens to the missing point if its a draw. It could be a rule where all group matches always have 3 pts up for grabs. Winner takes or all or if a draw then the third point goes to the winner of penalty shoot out.

Am I right in saying that if Senegal had have got a goal back and drew the game, then Japan would have gone through via the head to head over Columbia?
Well there are no matches tomorrow so basically that time slot should be used for a penalty shoot out or something between teams who are in this situation

Putting it to penalties puts it just as much to chance and confounding factors that deciding on yellows does.
I love how OP made this article moaning about it and said there must be a better way without actually suggesting anything himself. This is what you try and teach kids, don’t moan about it if you can’t think of a solution

But in this lies the problem. Not all fouls are daft/cynical.
It could be the 90th minute, two teams are tied on yellow cards and a player accidently makes a foul. Some refs might give a yellow and others might not. therefore based on a accident and ref interpretation a team is knocked out.
Na, still doesn't sit well with me.
