One for the future I hope. Heaven knows we need someone to follow on from Murray desperately.

One for the future? He is 24, the same age as Murray and ranked over 200.

Is he not the same age as Murray though?

Oh ... yes he is the same age as Murray.

Now I look stupid.

Ok I figured he'd be a young up n comer. Maybe he can push on and develop even at his late age to give us someone else to cheer on...or is that wishful thinking?

Listening to the views of Sue, Andrew et al on the Beeb, the consensus seems to be that this'll be the highlight of Ward's career. Although his quarter's against Mannarino rather than a big name, so there's a chance he could progress to the semis, which would really be the highlight of his career.

The British media go so over the top with a British player winning. Did you see all the press taking pictures of Ward who was in fact posing for the pictures as if he has won a Slam. Rather embarrassing I thought.

What do you expect though given the 70+ year wait we've had for a British GS winner and with so few British players competing. Any player that isn't Murray who has a smidgen of success is going to be treated like gold dust. I agree it's an overreaction but an expected one.

Anyone following James Ward here is a web site for the draw for Eastbourne next week.

He got to the QF last year.

As far as the GB media is concerned it reminds me of pre Henman & Rusedski days when they would get excited if a GB player (man or woman) survived to the 2nd week at Wimbledon.- Bring back any memories?
