Still doesn’t excuse the constant missing of sitters. Next two games we might only get the odd chance and they need to be taken.
Sad thing is most want him to do bad. People will say its the players around him or pep why he is good for city.
Hes missed one sitter kash
You've got people defending him saying he's not just about finishing, he's about creating chances for others. Well he had a fine chance to finish and create for a team mate yesterday, and he failed at both.
Don't get me wrong, he can be a handful to defenders but he has to improve on his finishing. Against better teams it'll cost you.

It’s the constant poor decision making when he has the ball as well though, even the game yesterday which was probably his best I counted about 4 times were he messed up a move by doing the wrong thing.
For what it’s worth he should continue playing as his big asset pace has been a big asset. A lot of the Hendo long passes have only been made because Sterling can reach them. Hendo and Sterling work well together.
He's been poor, no two ways about it, and is lucky to still be finding a place in that first 11.

Thats the problem. Bet u wernt counting mistakes from other players. Because they get ignored. For some reason most fans and media want him to fail.
As for talk of bitters, and partisan supporters, I'm pretty certain, if he still played for Liverpool, the same City fans defending his performances, would be lambasting him right now.
His finishing has to improve no doubt, but when everyone else in the team was off the pace in the first 20 minutes he was the main threat to the Swedish defence and played really well. No idea why it took 20 minutes or so to settle, maybe the team had to convince themselves they were better than Sweden, which they were.

It makes no sense whatsoever.
Ifs and buts. He never got this when at Liverpool
Dont know why but its clear they do, dont see how you can deny it. Even when he does well for city there's an excuse.

Why do people keep saying this? No England fans want him to fail. If it seems like there is a focus on him in particular it's because he has had more opportunities than most in that position and has barely improved in all this time, even with the club improvement. 2 goals in 43 is shocking for a forward who gets lots of opportunities in front of goal and who keeps getting games.

Not at all, Alli had a poor game yesterday other than the goal. He gave the ball away countless times especially first half.

So you believe it's because he's playing for City, a club who are very rarely criticised by the media, he is being picked on.
Once again, that argument makes no sense.
He's simply not playing very well, in a team where most others are, so he's bound to be highlighted.
I think the City fans are overly protective of Sterling because the media do go after him a little bit but he hasn’t played well this World Cup so far I don’t see how you can argue it.
For me, Sterling needs real quality around him to shine, did at Liverpool, and certainly has the benefit of that at City.
When he has to produce amongst players of a lesser level than he plays or has played with at club level, his game is exposed somewhat.
Actually Alli's goal was straight at the keeper who should have saved it. not as poor an attempt to save as the Uruguay keeper's against France, but not one he will want in his highlight reel. Alli was very poor first half, especially in the first 20 minutes, but so were most of the rest of the team. I wasn't even sure Lingard was playing in that first few minutes, but he came good with as good a cross for the goal as you will ever see.
He hasnt played well, but neither have all the attackers in open play. What doesnt help is only city fans see his contribution for city. Most say he is only good because of the players around him.

Probably true, but his game was good yesterday, bar one really poor attempt at finishing. The moment he stood back playing the ball with Delph he knew he was offside. that one was down to Delph, not Sterling.
Players like sterling stones and ali. There good contribution gets ignored but tge mistakes highlighted
We are at a point now where the chances are going to be harder to come by, he simply has to start taking these chances. The defending of Sterling is becoming as ridiculous as the slating of him, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
He missed a sitter against Panama as well as yesterday, and why he did not pass to Kane yesterday I will never know.
At the end of the day, Sterling's contribution to build up play, ball retention and creating space for others, is invaluable.
For whatever reason, perhaps because their clubs employ more static tactics, most of the other players do not perform well in England's build up phases.
If it wasn't for Stones' confidence in possession, and the movement off the ball of Henderson, Kane and especially Sterling, England would be extremely vulnerable to a high-press.
It's no wonder Walker is employed at centre-back, England need their fastest player covering for the less adequate movement of those further up the pitch, that causes Stones and Maguire to get caught in possession.
However I will say that the movement of many players has improved throughout the tournsment, especially Lingard x
Also I might add, it's abundantly clear that most people commenting on this thread didn't even bother to watch the video, since their criticisms focus on a lack of goals, without consideration for Sterling's overall contribution
