The grass is pretty much always greenest on United's side though, as Ronaldo has found out

Sir Bubble

You've been hitting the bubbly too much. Romantic dream was to join Real all along. Man U were a stepping stone for him.

Downing is a mediocre player. 20 million wasted. A truly epic swindle

Young is playing in a better side, but is by far the better player of the two. I really do miss him but I knew he would go on and do well. However, I think in our current team under our mediocre manager both players would struggle to look good anyway. N'Zogbia looked world class for Wigan at the end of last season but looks average for us because McCleish isn't playing him right. He did the same with Hleb for Birmingham, who looked woeful last season yet was one of the most creative players I've seen when he was at Arsenal.

When Young comes to VP with United I hope he gets a big cheer. Downing however deserves to be booed. One good season for us after years of mediocrity for us, Boro and England and he thinks he deserves a move to a club who weren't even in the Europa. Plus I won't forgive him for saying he'd stay at Villa even if we were relegated. He's an overrated one-trick pony and I hope he continues to perform average for L'Pool.

Young was unfairly given stick by some of the fans last year. I thought he was terrific, always on the move, always looking for opportunities. He did a reasonable job in the middle although I don't think that's his best position. At MU he's got the advantage of a fluid attack so that he can easily drift in towards goal scoring positions. At Villa he also helped out with the defence, but I shudder to think what McLeish would make of that.

Downing was good at Villa last year but the set-up suited him. He's not as versatile as Young; I don't think he'll shine in the same way for Liverpool, and he'll be no more than a peripheral player for England.
