At a boy - I knew we could find something to moan about if we tried hard enough!!

Mills is never going to be a footballing centreback. Trying to make him in to a player he is not contributed to his poor performances early on.

I say let him play to his strengths so we have an excellent defender, rather than forcing him to try and play football and end up with a liability.

Sven spent a lot of money on Mills, I think he's a good example of Sven's slight naivety in the transfer market. If he wanted a centre back who could play nice football, why on earth did he sign a solid no nonsense growler?

If we get the best out of Mills by allowing him a hoof every now and again, I can accept that.

Great performance from Matt Mills. An early mistake showed a lack of confidence not helped by his knowledge certain sections of the Supporters have written him aready.

A commanding second haf performance winning everything in the air ( difficult to do on the ground) and playing the perfect foil for Bamba who owned you know who and made him his batch for the game.

The defence kept a clean sheet perfect and that includes Mills.

made him his batch for the game.....

Does that mean that he gobbled him up Nev? Bet CMS had a cob on afterwards.

Mills was quality. He actually played a number of decent passes out of defence. Occasionally he still hoofed one clear but if that's what it takes to keep a clean sheet then fine by me.

Mills has tried the "playing the ball forward" style, it didnt work.

Its a bit late in his career now to try change him as a player, we just need to let him do what he does best.

'why on earth did he sign a solid no nonsense growler?'

I think there's an argument to say this is exactly what we needed. Every successful defence has this type of player leading and organising the back four and that's what we haven't had since Wayne Brown. Even Barcelona have Carles Puyol as this no nonsense player so I think that's exactly what we did need.

And I don't think it's too late for Mills to become better technically. He's only 25 and I'd expect endless work to be being done on the training ground to improve his passing.

In the 2nd half, after Matt had mislaid a few passes in the 1st, he just seemed to do what we bought him for; head it, clear it, block it and when he had the ball, if he was under pressure he would clear his lines and play it safe (and a few times those clearances were suitable for Vassell and Beckford to run onto) or if we were trying to build from the back, he'd play it simple to Bamba and let him play it out and start our attacks. I think that's probably the way forward until his passing improves.
