Was that last paragraph supposed to be encouraging?

No way can we afford to lose our first 4 games.

I'm not expecting much from this season but I don't really care if I see Sarri forging a team that start playing football that's better to watch than we've been used to of late.

Sarri has an average squad, that's been left to stagnate for a while now, to work with and has a whole new philosophy to get over!

It's going to be a hard season and I personally think top four will be a bonus!

I'm just hoping the bitter pill will be worth it in the long run!

Napoli only lost the first game under Sarri, then tied two games then changed formation n win next two games 5-0.

HI 4za... great game the other night.

With Chelsea, I can't see how you can sack the man regardless of results. He's been given a 2 week preseason, his best players are on extended leave due to the world cup and he hasn't brought in all but one player.
Write this season off, let the man introduce his style and give him the summer to work his magic

We'll be up there fighting for the league. This City team is ok but imo no where near the United, Chelseas and Arsenals of the 2000s upto this day. Been made to look better by the poor performances of the top 6 this last season.

However, I do agree that we can be more positive as we go forward as we had a big part of out main team missing.

We wont lose our first 4 games, will even go as far as saying I expect 3 wins and a draw. People are going to be surprised. We have quality in the squad and Sarri i feel will find it, I think we may have finally turned a corner and we are gonna start with are youth teams that have been hoovering up everything in sight.

City had free roam today and didn’t even have to play that well. That’s where the worry is. We have great players but we have a terrible striker. Let’s hope morata is done at Chelsea

People forget what City were like when Guardiola first arrived.

Now, it helps that he was able to sign pretty much his first choice target in every position he wanted, which we probably wouldn’t do for Sarri even if we could. We like to buy the likes of Drinkwater for 35m

Hopefully though Jorginho is a sign of things to come from us, signing top players in the positions we need rather than going nuts and spending £30-40m each on 3-4 players. Harder for us to sign players for a manager’s needs though since we change them so often.

Need an overarching philosophy and a DOF to help implement it consistently over time. Hire managers that share the philosophy and we’ll be able to build long term even while changing managers somewhat frequently.

So you think City have been perfect from the moment Guardiola walked in? You think he wasn’t able to sign the players he wanted? You think we haven’t wasted big money recently on people like Drinkwater? You don’t think Jorginho is a good sign that we might improve in that respect? You don’t think it’s hard to sign players for a manager’s needs when we keep changing them all the time? You don’t think we should have a ground up philosophy that every team in our club adheres to? You don’t think a DOF would help us consistently make signings that fit that vision so that, even if we continue to change managers frequently, as long as each manager fits our philosophy we’ll be able to maintain a similar standard of squad long term?

Maybe you were just having one of your dlckhead moments, who knows

Well said Simon West, totally agree with you. Some of our fans are too impatient for success as if its its our divine right to have it One thing I am certain is none of our rivals will take us lightly. Look at the celebrations when City scored ...they certainly did not.
OK our players are still rusty and absent, but we still made chances and showed some attacking moments, far better than the droll they shall not pass stance from last term. We will improve and enjoy good games this season. Patience is key here.

Let's look at the players Pep was able to sign do improve his time that already consisted of David Silva, De Bruyne, Aguero, Kompany, Fernandinho, Otamendi and Sterling.

Pep also had dead wood like Hart, Sagna, Zabaleta, Kolorov and Jesus Navas.

Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Mendy, Gundogan, Sane, Bernardo Silva, G.Jesus.

Nearly every one of these players cost £50m, some were £35-£40m before the market really inflated. Let's not pretend City had it all their own way in Peps first season.

I know I made an article yesterday about our squad depth and on paper it looks like we do have depth but the more I think of it, As a squad, We are miles off City, heck even Liverpool.

We need shot of...

Courtois - Won't sign a contract, Cash in.

Moses - Won't play as a RB, No other place for him.

Cahill - Finished.

Alonso - Decent back up, To really go to the next level he's doesn't have a place for me.

Drinkwater - Not good enough, Crystal Palace/Bournemouth are his level.

Fabregas - Could argue he's useful as a squad player, I don't think so tho, Him being in the team hinders more than it helps unfortunately.

Bakayoko - Need a say more.

Pedro - Runs around like a headless chicken these days, It seems like he doesn't have a footballing brain.

Morata - He will never be good enough, I would rather have Torres, At least he looked like he wanted it. This guy needs to go asap, Especially with as he's still fetch a decent fee.

That's 9 players from last season who played a major role in the first team.

Only Jorginho has came in, We need reinforcements and if any good came from yesterday it was that the board must've seen we were way off Cities level, without Silva and De Bruyne.

I know Kanté, Hazard and Batshuayi have all to return but we need more.

Whilst I agree that yesterday means nothing, it doesn't change the fact that last season Morata wasn't good enough and he won't be again this season.
I personally think that Alonso and Luiz will get isolated and hurt against the better teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Caballero - best player yesterday but he's trash.

Luiz not good enough to play in a back 4.

Alonso is terrible at LB, Mahrez was rinsing him all game, then a little kid Diaz came on and destroyed him.

Rudiger shocking for both goals.

Azpi not good enough at RB, lacks the ability to make overlapping runs.

Fabregas - needs to go - offers nothing and has done for a while now, hasn't got the legs to play the pressing game and we don't need his passing as Jorginho is there.

Barkley - overhyped English player, should be nowhere near the 1st team.

Jorginho - got pressed yesterday and couldn't really cope with it but he'll learn.

Pedro - just not good enough anymore, best years are past him. Hope Willian starts or we sign Zaha.

Morata - enough has been said about him, guy is useless.

CHO - our best player in pre season is a 17 year old

So all in all, not a massive over reaction - we've got a lot of work to do, really could do with signing 3/4 players but we'll probably sign 1.

A lot of the players are not good enough or capable of playing in this system.

Can't argue with this!

one thing I don't understand is how people keep saying "Pep didn't have it easy when he first stepped in at city"

Now that is ridiculous, the guy came in to a club with unlimited funds, they spend millions and oh what a surprise they walked the league with a brilliant manager last year.

Pep is better than Sarri
Chelsea can't compete financially with City
Our squad is still worse than theres compared to Pep when he walked in and Sarri walking in now.

Those are the facts.

I mean, Pep had Aguerro when he walked in who is a comfortable 20 goal a season striker. Sarri has a useless striker who clearly is uninterested and one of the worse strikers we've had in the Abramovich era across the board.

Kezman had a bigger heart than him for example

Lol at don getting emotional cos his comment was nonsense. City’s position when pep took over is nothing like Sarris. City’s team were twice as good as we are now.
