Hmmmm...........

Let's see

Preferred fullbacks are misused ageing wingers

No epl experienced wingers - except the misused ones (above)

Only one decent striker

Some average gash in rash and martial

Some utter cack in lingard and herrera

An out of favour (and ageing) mata

a keeper that is (over)due to be found out

Apart from smalling, jones, pogba, matic, mata, lukaku and (hopefully) fred no real combination of winners, creativity, guts or character

Could well be a disaster if two or more of those players have an injury, go awol or fall out if jose's favour.

Live in hope, but .................

Really hard to tell with Utd this year.

On paper they should be nailed on for at least second and they'll probably buy someone else too.

Pre-season, from what I can gather, Sanchez has been playing a bit better and that could make a huge difference but then you see they don't have a shot on target against Bayern and you suspect the players are not buying into what the manager is saying. Jose alluded to this last season too when moaning, again, that he can only tell them what to do.

If I had to bet on it I'd say a long slog battling for a CL place. If the fans start to boo then Mourinho will kick off - he does not like being criticised at all (like any manager tbf) but he comes out swinging, basically telling everyone they don't know what they're talking about.

If he loses the support of the fans he's a goner but a good start could settle everything down. Must do better in the CL though as his recent record in it has been awful despite what he says.

Gets some good bites tbf, quite regularly, some people still think he's actually a United fan too.

Pure Partridge.

Really? I wouldn't put him much above Nobb and RDD.

On the OP

I think there is a very good chance of this happening.

I think it could go either way.

If Utd get Alderweireld then I reckon Jose may loosen things going forward. I don't think he trusts his current defence at all really and can't seem to keep Bailly on the pitch.

Not sure that buying a CB will do that.

Alderweireld isn't Franz Bekenbauer.

I think he'll give the forwards and possibly full backs more freedom because he trust Alderweireld more than say Jones, Smalling and Lindelof. I feel he is being ultra cautious atm because he doesn't trust his defence, all the noise is that he wants another cb which considering Utd have about 6 already seems a bit overkill.

.................

He has always been like it, Hoody. Even with his best defence at Chelsea.

SAF alluded to his pragmatism in his last book. It was just one of the reasons I didn't think he would be a good fit for us.

I've rarely seen a Jose team struggle so badly going forward though and sometimes struggling to get a shot on target.

Would be nice for a CB of ours to be able to find a midfielder with a pass that isn't 3 yards to the front or side of them though.

Has Smalling ever missed Matic out and passed it through the lines straight to someone like Lingard in AM, to enable us to turn and get up the pitch faster?

Or being able to accurately set Sanchez or Rashford on their way out wide, without having to do that lorry turning circle thing he does, before giving it to Matic, then to Pogba, then after a bit of time spreading it out wide to someone who's got 2 defenders ahead of them.

How much of a treat would that be?

Yeah it can definitely help with transitions. The way Jose sets up at Utd though, with not much width, means the space isn't maximised enough imo. Solid though (plus quite boring).

Once you have read that, you can't think that he is anything other than a wum. And a stupid one at that.

On the OP, I think that there is a reasonable chance that he will implode. I can't see it being as bad as at Chelsea, but he could possibly struggle to get us in top 4. If by the middle of the season we aren't in the top 4 he may well start kicking up a fuss and end up leaving the club.

I also think that he is going to be under huge pressure from the fans quite early on if we don't start playing some better football. There was already sounds of discontent last season and after the dismal preseason we have had in terms of style, patience is wearing thin.

You could see, as clear as day, the difference between us and Liverpool and how our clubs are being ran.

Go to the 60th minute ish of our game with the dips. Klipperty makes four substitutions. Each one of them knew exactly what his role was and how he should play. Total continuity.

Us; scatter-gun. Totally rudderless.
