No. If our teams were going to sign players they would have in the window allocated.

Yes, English clubs have disadvantaged themselves. Players often come available later in the window, as clubs finalise their squads. Also, you learn things about your squad once competitive football starts, but now you cannot fix them.
The timing was even worse, doing it for the first time in a World Cup summer.

Also, people think clubs abroad will respect our window and not bid for players once our window is shut. Cannot see that, if one of the big clubs decides they want a player they will go for him.

so youd be happy if your team had two serious injuries in the first 2 or 3 games and were unable to get someone in to replace them. Well can only assume you are a man city fan, they are poss. the only team that could cope with that.

Wrong team in Manchester. We had plenty of time to buy players, we bought 2, wouldn’t have made any difference if the window was open for longer.

I think sooner rather than later a big name player will leave and our clubs will be stood around with their dlcks in their hands wandering how it happened...

Didn't they vote for it?

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot

I think sooner or later the other big leagues will follow suit and close before their league starts too. Obviously we start a week earlier so their might still be some overlap but in the end closing it before the season starts makes sense all around.

We've absolutely shot ourselves in the foot here. As it stands now parasites like RM can come in and take players, as they do, and there is nothing we can do to replace them.

European clubs could even use it as a ploy to deliberately disadvantage British clubs in European competition.

Transfer Window is open long enough. I am pretty happy that is shut earlier in the PL. But it should be more restrictive. No outgoings either would be good.

posted on 12/8/18

for example lets say after game 2 in uk Gareth Bale has huge argument with Reals coach and hands in transfer request no British club can go in for him, so can psg munich and such pick him up dirt cheap and we lose out again.

Fine if it was but that's not the case, as it stands now RM can put in a £200m bid for Hazard, unsettle him to the point he demands a transfer, leaves us in a untenable position and we have no way of replacing him.

The club needs to stand firm then. Simple.

Thats not really the point, though. If Hazard wants to go then it will disrupt Chelsea - even if he ends up staying.
The whole point of closing the window was so teams aren't disrupted by transfers .

The club can by all means stand firm - that's the easy part.

Trying to get the best out of an unsettled player for the following season is the hard part.

posted on 12/8/18

Other option would be to have two window tiers (like we are having) but rather than stopping buys altogether before the season kicks off just stop domestic transfers?

If Hazard wants to go, he goes anyway. Not depending on how long the TW is open.

Obviously but the whole point is then, we can't replace him and our season is in disarray!

The comment all about money was related to Hazard's possible intention to leave the club. If Chelsea gives him even more money he stays.

But that isn't what we are discussing. The topic is if the transfer window closing for PL teams 3 weeks before the rest of the big leagues is a bad move.
