Nice way to get the 200.
Night Heb, Cat & all.
RFB will be over the moon, Forest have won 10 - 9 in penalties over the mighty Bury after equalising on 90+3.
Forest are meant to be automatic promotion candidates aren't they?
Or are they still living in 1980.?
Unlucky Bury. Deserved to win.
Fluck them, they will all go quiet in a few weeks.
Good response tonight, up the rams!
5 more comments and this will be the 'most commented' thread on the Oldham board
3, and I'm doing this in my sleep!
We used to have a guideline that 3 consecutive comments was a sign of madness............
But nowadays there is much more effective medication, counselling and support, so not too unusual. Treatable, and a relatively normal life is possible.
But, we still need your support. Please give what you can.
Heb, we're Oldham legends !
Good performance overall, could have had six or seven very easily. Wilson, Mount, FloJo and Marriott all lively. Both full backs excellent. I doubt Lowe will get a look-in - Malone looks every inch the player we have been looking for in that position and Bogle was good on the ball and got forward well. Evans OK but looks a back-up midfielder rather than a starter.
Still a bit sloppy in possession at times but were so siperior it felt a bit like a pre-season match. Absolutely shocking chicken balti pie.
There is much promise afoot and Mel is to be congratulated on appointing Frank Lampard and then giving him the freedom to use his considerable influence to bring in outstanding loans and some interesting recruits which I think will get us out of the rut GR had got us into.
The defeat at the hands of Leeds was only to be expected given the tremendous start to their season na the very short time to get The Rams to gel as a unit.
I am very hopeful
I think it will be a bumpy ride initially. Last night some of the play was very good indeed and incisive but I worry that until we learn how to stop giving the ball away cheaply in midfield we will get mugged and this will sap confidence. With experience they will hopefully learn to think of the ball as a precious thing to keep hold of against better opposition. Last night you felt they believed it didn't really matter since the opposition couldn't hurt us, but that wasn't the case against Leeds and it won't be against most teams.
With Johnson in midfield giving the ball away cheaply goes without saying. He has his qualities but distribution isn't one of them. We need a box to box midfielder to do the fetching and carrying out of defence. Mount is an attacking midfielder as is Bryson.
Vidal is it fair to say that on last nights performance if we were playing Leeds again they would still have gubbed us as we would have been punished for making the same errors on saturday?
So was last night an improvement or a result of facing weaker opposition?
Both, Rameses. Although Johnson and Evans did give the ball away once or twice it occurred far more often when we were in attacking positions and it was Mount and the wide players who in trying to be elaborate conceded possession, often with the full backs ahead of the ball trying to attack. It's a game of risk vs benefit because we looked very dangerous in such positions but vulnerable to counter attack.
The overall quality of play was much better but they pressed us far less and didn't counter with any threat so it's hard to make comparisons with Saturday. I feel it's just a question of reigning in the gung honess just a little bit when attacking, not trying for the 50-50 flicks and one-twos when we are over-committed in attack but showing more patience. There is a definite sense of the new boys wanting to impress which is understandable given their age and the competition for places.
It'll settle down I'm sure. The whole team needs to bed in. Although he isn't mobile I do think Huddz will make a significant difference with his composure. We want to play quickly but not frantically.
A team can afford a relatively slow player if they can pass. e,g Iniesta, Beckham. Players can pass a ball far quicker than Usain Bolt can run.
Huddz is a good call. I can’t wait to see what he can do with the ball at his feet and a myriad of willing runners for him to find. Could well be a big piece of the jigsaw.
I learnt a lot from last nights game.
Firstly, that we were in fact playing Oldham and not Carlisle, as I had supposed.
This would have had an impact on team selection and tactics. And indeed transport, as we would have taken the bus to the wrong town.
Not a mistake I would imagine many top-flight managers would have made. Although Premiership managers probably have someone to book train tickets and such for them and they would know where to go.
A salutary lesson!
Speaking of Carlisle.
About thirty years ago I had a few days' holiday and drove around Scotland, stopping at B&Bs and doing a bit of walking. On the last evening I was heading back towards Bolton where I was working at the time. I found a B&B in Dumfries and Galloway and the landlady had a room but refused to rent it to me for reasons she refused to disclose, even though I had the cash to pay up front. I assume it was racism. I continued towards Carlisle where I saw floodlights on so I decided to go and watch Carlisle play Hartlepool in the Sherpa Vans Trophy. I stood with the monkey-hangers, I think probably doubling their number.
At half time we were let outside to where there were vans selling pies and pasties. I remember having an extremely fine pasty there, I would say the best thing I have ever eaten at a footy match. People are always talking about progress and suchlike, but when I compare that pasty to the chicken balti pie I had last night I would say that the human race is definitely going backwards.

I queued up at the table until I discovered there was no food to be had and then I joined the other queue in my quest for a delicious pie. In the second queue there were several people who were making various comments about the yellow liquid they had just purchased, none of them complimentary.
