Ricardo has certainly helped to fill the Mahrez void but definitely hasn't improved the defensive Right Back position, an issue still to be put right.
Good optimism KTF1 and I agree entirely.
I have been very critical of Chilwell’s slow development on the past, and I would be absolutely delighted if he rams that down my throat and proves me wrong.
Two games does not make a player, but there are certainly signs that’s he’s ready to step up. Credit to Puel for seeing this.
Gray May follow him as they seem to have created a good understanding on the left. However after an excellent performance against Utd, Gray reverted to type with poor end product against Wolves. Let’s see how’s theyre both doing after 10 or so games but positive signs.
As for Maddison and Pereira, well they just look utter class. I think we can finally say we’ve got a transfer window right for the first time since our title win really.
Well done to Rudkin 😉
Was a bit gutted you guys got Maddison as you could tell he was class even in League One with Coventry. Looks like the move has worked out well for both you and the player though and credit to your boss for throwing him straight in the XI as it seems to have fired the lad up and he doesn't look out of place in this league at all.
Chilwell seems to have had a good close season and has started this season well. He’s always been athletic enough to get up and down the left side, but there were times last season when he seemed to lose confidence in the final third. He’d occupy some great positions, but then be afraid to cross the ball or continue his run. The ball would then go backwards. He appears to be more willing to attack the final third now. He’ll get it wrong sometimes, but it’s the only way to improve his quality in that area.
Defensively he’s also been a bit hit and miss. His positioning and decision making has been a bit suspect in the past. His winger (Gray) needs to help him here and that’s been happening so far with far greater work rate. That goal line clearance showed commitment and application.
So far so good. I actually wanted Fuchs back in last season, but Chilwell’s form, so far, means he should be given an extended run in the team.
Chilwell is responding like many lads of his age when they link up with their mate and start to enjoy life and football more.
Don't under estimate the Maguire effect now he has shown how to get into England from LCFC that will give them confidence in him and their possibility's
I wrote an article about him on the Spurs board the other day, I'd like us to sign him.
Genuine question - who is his mate ?
Maddison they have a bromance and are inseperable
I agree Joby (obviously). Chilwell’s biggest problem last year was that he couldn’t defend, but he was athletic so theoretically offered more in attack... but then he couldn’t attack either!
This season I still think he has a lot more work to do on his defending, but there is no denying his link up play, overlapping and delivery have all improved when going forward.
Problem is so far, nobody has been anywhere near the box to take advantage of his crossing!
That’s the word Mersey. “Theoretically” he offers more in attack. A lot of people didn’t seem to understand last season that theoretically doesn’t always equate to actual performance. The positions he gets into are great, but his delivery is often poor. Fuchs has much better delivery, but less ability to get into those positions.
There seems to be a clear willingness to try harder in that respect this season, but it’s only two games. He mustn’t lose confidence, even if his delivery is hit and miss, as improvement in this area would make him a valuable asset. This is also a necessity of Puel’s style in a 4-2-3-1.
He's definitely improved defensively, from what we've seen so far. As much as I like Fuchs, playing Chilwell with Fuchs passing on his experience is by far the best arrangement.
