The difference is about 1 penalty every 2 seasons, so kind of neglectable

Evening Billy, the Penalty stats for and against shouldn`t surprise any of us. Man United should have had another one added against them last night.

Neglectable .....a wonderful new word . ,well done that man .

Everton had Duncan Ferguson in the 90s didn’t they? That helps partly explain the red card stat

Surprised City don't have more own goals, after all we had the king of the o.g. the mighty Dunny. We all loved him but the guy had an unerring ability to put the ball in his own net. I'm sure most clubs have a CB of similar vein but he does stand out.

Devil's advocate (pun intended) but Man U would expect to have fewer penalties conceded because I imagine they played a lot less of their games in their own penalty areas over this period compared to most others.

This. People seem to think that the stats completely reflect poor decisions, as though every team spends an equal amount of time in the penalty area. Also aplarently defenders are allowed to make fouls in the area, because god forbid that the ref shows favouritism by awarding a penalty.

To a degree absolutely but to also dismiss the "poor" refereeing the opponents of United received under Fergie is to rewrite history

The Dunny monster did have his problems keeping the ball out of the net.

The referee gets ready to get the game underway at anfield and it’s a penalty, it’s not even kicked off yet but he’s seen something he doesn’t like an it’s a penalty to Liverpool 😏

I must start reading the dictionary again ! ,a far nicer word than negligible .

No real surprise Pool are way out in front on penalties awarded with all the favourable refereeing they enjoy. You would expect the most successful team to have been awarded the most, but United are trailing Pool by 21 spot kicks.

The fact that for a large percentage of the PL era, Pool have been an ordinary team and are top of the penalties awarded stats by quite a distance, tells us all we need to know about how referees treat them.

Considering how much time they've spent outside the top flight, Blackburn's red card total is pretty appalling. Dirty fockers..

Yeah Blackburn were thugs, particularly under Souness, Hughes and big Sam

Dirty caaants like Andy Todd and Lucas Neil playing for them
