Xhaka is so bad man. I’m at the end of my tether with him
From Santi to Xhaka. Just horrible
Let's be fair. Santi could be easily robbed of the ball in cm and Xhaka is much harder to knock off the ball. The lack of mobility and awareness of runners around him is a huge worry though.
Difference between Santi and Xhaka as CM, is if Santi had a poor game it was generally because he was let down by others.
With Xhaka, he's usually the one letting others down.
I am all for thinking out of the box. Let's play Ozil and Torreira in midfield. Emery is using Ramsey to press further forward. Wenger was using Santi with Coq protecting deeper and Ramsey narrow to press further forward. Ozil knows how to ride challenges and rarely loses the ball like Santi.
Jenius still hating on Santi. I remember when Jenius and all the other Ramsey bum boys were begging for Santi to get dropped for Ramsey. Look how that worked out for us

Xhaka is very problematic. A big issue for me is how slowly he moves the ball and how much that affects our build up. I'd much prefer Elneny in there alongside Torreira, as he has that energy. And when Xhaka does eventually lose the ball because he's been dawdling on it, his half-hearted attempts to chase back just add insult to injury.
Given Xhaka has basically slotted in as our replacement for Cazorla, the difference between the two does make me very worried. Santi
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You're saying that Xhaka being so slow is a concern for you.
Why dont you use this argument for Ramsey or Guendouzi? He is much more a liability than Xhaka

I know Aubameyang scored but I feel he doesn't give us what we need out wide
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He doesnt give what we need because no on of our midfielder can make a splitting pass through defenders. The only one who brings players into a running situation is Xhaka to Monreal for example.

Ramsey bum boy? . You need to look at my posts of Wenger trying to replace Cesc with Hollywood Ramsey before labeling me that Wenger bought Santi to replace Cesc. But he didn't have his awareness so bought Ozil soon after that. It was then all about fitting Santi and Ozil together. Wenger couldn't do it without dropping Theo for Ramsey running about covering for him. This meant we ended up with a forward line and midfield of slow midgets behind Giroud. No pace or width. Even teams like Norwich could easily defend that. I liked Santi but let's not get all revisionist to suggest that Cazorla was some pantheon of success because apart from a great game against Man City away it was mostly meh!
Cech was the best goalkeeper in the world at one time - but he is so 'past it' you need binoculars to see him. He can sometimes be decent in static one-on-one situations but otherwise he is now mediocre/poor/rubbish at all other parts of goalkeeping. Why did we buy Leno if Cech keeps making mistakes and being at best mediocre and yet retains his place?
Xhaka is slow, positionally hopeless, no sense of danger - and despite being a good passer makes lots of bad mistakes - why isn't Torreira starting ?
If Ramsey wants big money we should offload him - he's been bang average this season.
Ozil was decent today, but that's because Cardiff gave him lots of time - £350k a week is absurd but we are stuck paying that thanks to the crisis Wenger put us in last season...

Pretty much everyone else on this thread for starters.
Just a suggestion here, but when Kolasinac returns I think 352 would best suit your players
Mustafi Sokratis Monreal in the back 3. Mustafi would have more cover when attempting to make risky challenges, and Sokratis in the middle is less exposed for pace
Bellerin and Kolasinac at wing back. The latter looks suspect defensively but at wing back can mainly concentrate on attacking
Torreira sitting, with Ramsey and Ozil ahead of him. Ramsey and Ozil will then get to play centrally but with much more security behind them, with Torreira and the back 5
Laca and Auba strike partnership. Neither has to be shunted out wide

Santi was the best CM in England for about a year before he got injured at Norwich
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Santi should never have been replaced by Ozil. His best games were when he played wide on the left. But he never had the size to play central midfield. That was all abt Wenger tring to fit in players than any proper scheming. Ashley Cole was absolutely spot on when he left Chelsea and was asked why Mourinho broke our dominance.
We never replaced Vieira.
Look at all the players we have used to play alongside a holding player. Arteta, Santi even Cesc (with Flamini). All technical players who did half the job of Paddy. The could link play from defence to attack but were absolute tosh without the ball. Wenger just repeated the mistake with Xhaka.
