Refereeing Performance From Jon Moss Again

On the Bardsley kick, it's a clear red.

It isn't a little tickle, he literally kicks Rashford off his feet.

If Bardsley got booked for his part in the confrontation, and not for the kick, then we have to assume that the referee didn't see the kick.

In which case, are the powers that be not obliged (or at least able) to take a look? Doesn't do us much good obviously, but there was a definite sense of injustice in that the instigator got away with just a yellow card.

Booking for Bardsley and Rashford for me - I think people have forgotten what violent conduct really means.

....................

Booking for Bardsley, Rashford had to go.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why only a booking for Bardsley? A kick at Rashfords legs, nowhere near the ball? That's a red in my books.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Excessive force of brutality are the words in the law,
I believe.

Kicking someone is not an automatic red.

I fail to see how anyone can watch that incident and conclude anything other than two yellows to be honest, particularly when you read the actual law.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If one goes, they both have to go

Rashford was foolish and naïve and he has been punished. I don't see his red being appealed or overturned

Bardsley should have been sent off for the kick alone in my book. It was a deliberate act and it was aimed at a fellow professional.

What I do find interesting is that MOTD2 highlighted Bardsley going at Rashford, with his head, in retaliation with equal force.

By rights, the referee has to look at that in retrospect and conclude that this constituted a red card offence if he is going to be consistent.

Personally, I thought they should have both walked.

Just another set of incidents that highlight the need for VAR in England.

Fair enough - it's certainly one that falls into the 'interpretation' bracket.

For me though, Rashford just leans forward to confront him - if that's a headbutt then you have lived a sheltered life

Both should have walked, rashford had to go he put his head in, not with any great force but intent.

He’s even admitted himself he was stupid.

I don't think it constitutes a head-butt

As LQ has already alluded to. It's the intent that's done him. That and Bardsley's reaction.

LQ is filtered.

Intent is nonsense - nothing to do with the law. Brutality and excessive force are the things to be considered.

He clearly didn't intend a headbutt anyway. He just lent in.

I might be filtered but he’s logged out and in to check what’s been said on other threads.

Winston is wrong on this.

I would add, intent can be relevant - but not in this case.

It's not as if he aimed a headbutt and missed, is it?

The ref had a good view, he missed the kick from Bardley mind, it’s obvious what rashford was doing and it’s the third sending off this season for the same thing.

Rashford was an idiot and deserved the red card.

He’s apologised end of story.
