Walcott is a speed merchant with no footballing brain, there is a reason he is constantly offside.

This is the guy who thinks Walcott is on par with Mbappe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Read to understand. I said at the same age, Walcott was every bit as good as Mbappe. Look at his record (100 goals in one season). Wenger ruined him. Period.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Walcott scored 100 goals in one season?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah, as a feckin 12 year old.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Look, the Walcott-Mbappe comparisons were in response to another poster claimed that Walcott has never been a good poster. I then stated that as a teenager, Walcott scored over 100 goals for his side. Clearly this is not a sign of a poor finisher. I then mentioned that Walcott (as a teen) was just as good as Mbappe based on their goal return & attributes (pace, finishing, accelaration etc). Walcott was a victim of bad coaching, Mbappe is the beneficiary oy some brilliant coaching. Why everybody is attacking I don't know.

The point is, the boy COULD finish. The gist of what I was saying: Had Walcott received the same training, mentoring & coaching that Mbappe received at age 12, then he could've easily have reached the heights that Mbappe reached at 18/19.

I once scored 82 goals in a season in Edinburgh powerleague. Does that mean I could be as good as Mbappe?

You're missing the point. Walcott WAS seen as something of teen sensation by TOP managers & coaches because of the attributes that he had. You on the other hand....

What attributes?

He was vastly over rated at a young age and had additional and unnecessary pressure put on him by Wenger and the idiot Sven listening to Wenger.

Pace? Check. Finishing? Check. Making Clever Runs into the box from the right? Check. What else do you want from a teenager?

Remember that chap called Wayne Rooney.

That is what Walcott never had as a teenager, or in his latter years for that matter..

Good decision for getting rid of a 21 Bonucci for the good of his development - when you had the world class partnership of Lucio, Samuel with the Materazzi and Cardoba as back ups.

Did you ever play youth football? The score lines were ridiculous and you'd typically have a couple of players in the team that stood out who would would walk rings around the rest of the players. Walcott with his amazing speed would fall into that category. I bet he got put through on goal 10 times per game with his pace. So I don't think that 100 goals as a 12 year old really proves he was a great finisher.

Andy Cole scored 229 goals in his career.... he was an awful finisher.

............

I remember reading a bit on Giggsy when he was that age scoring eight or nine goals a game.

I used to score four or five goals a game when I was a kid, but couldn't get a sniff when I had trials and came up against much better kids.

-------------

He wasn't an awful finisher, more an average one. But I take your point - he'd need 5 chances to score a goal. The thing is, he worked so hard and had a knack of finding space, that he got more chances that most strikers so delivered good figures. Walcott at 12 years old will have been absolutely skinning his peers. He'll have had chance after chance. Especially playing for a local amateur youth team in a small market town.

Walcott is just a pace merchant. Mbappe is on a whole different level to him. I didn't see Walcott being compared to tye best players in their world like Mbappe when he was 18 years old.

are you seriously suggesting that if cole could finish say even 1 in 3 chances that he would have close to 400 goals in his career?

He certainly should have had more goals than he accumulated.

Not sure why that sounds daft. If you had watched him play it would seem a fairly reasonable assumption.
