Sarri on captain decision: "I have my idea, I have decided, but i would like to wait before I tell you my decision to speak with the players and the club. For the moment, the captain is Azpilicueta, I will tell you the final decision after I talk with the players and club"

Reading between the lines, it wont be Azpi.

Hazard is the obvious frontrunner.
Captaincy should be handed to someone who will be at the club for the long haul from now (rules out Luiz, Fabregas as viable options)...

If Hazard is appointed captain and subsequently commits to long-term contract then great.

Jorginho would be my bet.

Thought about him but as far as I know he wasn't captain at Napoli so that was what made me rule him out abit

Jorginho would be the strangest (unheard of) appointment, being a newcomer.
Usually the club and coach consider/decide on a player that has existed at the club for years.

Hazard captain.
Azpi, Luiz, Fabregas, maybe Jorginho vice safe bet.

I would say Luiz, for his all round personna and use, personallity wise, around the football club.Plus he would be great with the younger players, even when he's not playing.

It's not as strange as you think, in all the games so far he is clearly pulling all the strings and telling others where to run to make themselves available to receive the ball.

There have been several articles recently indicating that that various media sources believe that Azpi would be the right choice.
I think Sarri would hand the armband to Eden if he shows commitment to stay and grow into the role. Its a very tough decision as Azpi has been more that competent as a leader. Talking to the players and understanding their consensus is the right way to go.

I don't dispute that, CSS69.
My reasoning was just for the mere fact that Jorginho is a newcomer, one would think that will go against him being a captain candidate.

CMF I do see your train of thought and I would'nt be surprised if Hazard was given it as some sort of sweetener also.

I did think that too, makes sense that club would offer captaincy as extra incentive (along with being highest paid) in efforts to convince Hazard to commit to long-term contract.

Club have to protect their interest and Hazard provides biggest the monetary value.
Allowing him to run down contract and lose value would be a disaster.

*biggest monetary value

Call me deluded but I still think that if things work out well he will stay. His family is settled here and RM without zz are not as much of a draw as they were with him.

Yes Sideshow but with our recent track record of signing not great offensive players,it is unlikely that Chelsea will win CL in the near future. We need rwo quality strikers but we don't even sign one and we are not going to win it any time soon!

Azpilicueta for sure, not that afro-muppet

If he's gunna play consistently I wouldn't mind giving it to Luiz.

He's been at the club the longest (just forget the two PSG seasons lol), he's got captaincy experience with Brazil (just forget the 1-6 Germany result lol).... nah but seriously, I've always been a fan of the captain being a CB and Luiz, in a way, has the commanding personality for it.

But tbf it's somewhat moot. If the captain's meant to be the managers figurehead on the pitch then it's Jorginho whether he's wearing the armband or not

Has to be Azipilicueta he is the embodiment of Chelsea. Gives 100 percent every game and class and I think will set a great example for years.

I'd go with Azpi but I wouldn't mind Hazard. He's the only international team captain in this side. Has stepped up his game for Belgium since becoming captain. Could see him taking more responsibility for us with the captains armband.

I can only imagine it being Azpilicueta.

The only scenario in which I think it'll be Hazard is if behind the scenes they've been speaking about his new contract and getting the armband is extra incentive to sign it.

Luiz, Fabregas and even Rüdiger have captains qualities but they are outside runners, It'll be Azpilicueta I'm pretty confident.

If it is Azpi...why would Sarri feel the need to "speak with the players and the club"?

No need to when he's already been the acting captain this season, under Sarri.
Azpi unlikely to be appointed permanent captain.

No way Sarri takes this long in the season to decide, for it only to be Azpi in the end.

Agree with this. There's nothing to say if the existing status quo is simply being continued.
