I’ve heard this isn’t a a wide spread problem TB. It’s only the players that won the title and played under Pearson that are the problem.

Nothing to do with Puel’s aging tactics and methods. It’s just that he’s not Pearson.

Once we get rid of Vardy, Schmeichel and King... you know, our three best players, we’ll be fine and Puel can set about making us average again.

Meanwhile here in the real world Chilwell who Puel has championed and Maddison who he signed not forgetting Maguire who signed a long term contract under Puel are England players with two of them set to be first choice picks. England playing the possession football we are doing all eleven players touched the ball for the first goal and it went backwards sideways all the things you love to hate and then boom a goal.
Great times to an England and LCFC supporter.

Nev, did you watch the game!?

In no world did we play possession football!

Good goals though

Not that I’ve moaning as I don’t want England to play boring sideways possession. We’ve tried it, couldn’t do it, got worse and learnt from it. Southgate seems to be wanting to bring through youth and pace

for one goal every single England player touched the ball at least once so nothing to do with possession and passing football Not.

Did you watch the game Nev?

yes and second half we had no possession just backs to the wall stuff. But we have been playing this way for a while now.

I genuinely may have missed something: Which England goal involved the whole team?

First goal I believe was a punt to the halfway line from Pickford to Kane quick ball out to Rashford, superb ball into Sterling and great finish.

Second goal was a quick high ball to Kane who controlled it and played a superb ball into Rashford and another clinical finish.

Third goal: I think maybe Dier(?) won the ball back high up we turned them over with a quick chipped ball through to Kane (I think?) by Barkley and a good ball back in and finish.

Spain controlled possession in the first half and absolutely dominated in the second when we were terrible on the ball at times and had to dig in and defend...5 more minutes and we would have probably drew that game.

Fast, clinical, quick balls from the keeper, winning the ball high up...definite comparisons to Leicester from yesteryear in the first half....but to suggest we played this consistent passing game isn’t true and to suggest we played possession football with just 20 odd percent of the ball is ludicrous.

As I said, I see many positives in the way we played, but possession football wasn’t one of them!!!

I agree that England have been playing the way for a while in terms of a team that can’t turn up for 90 minutes which I think is partly down to confidence and mentality. And that is what we need to learn from if we are EVER going to win another tournament.

The belief was draining out of us by the minute second half.

Completely off topic - what a complete waste of time taking Maddison and giving him zero minutes.

KTF the one you describe as a punt from Pickford was the second pass he had made in a move and possesion which had envolved every Engand player passing the ball to another England player till the ball from Pickford opened up the defense which England had been pulling around

posted on 16/10/18

Why was it a waste of time he got to integrate into the England set up when would of been a good time to bring him on Yesterday?

Hmmm....I’m not sure that passing around prior to the punt from Pickford particularly pulled Spain out of possession but for arguments sake, I’ll concede that technically it could be classed as part of the ‘move’ that contributed to the quick trio of passes for the goal....still where is this ‘possession football’ aside from that move!? Again...I don’t want England to go down that road, I want us to do exactly what we did for the majority of times in the first half against such opponents From home.

Re;Maddison, there were several players who under performed against Croatia and should have been pulled allowing Maddison an opportunity.

If, yesterday, Southgate had stuck with experience I would have understood that, but for winks, Sancho and Chalaboh in particular (I think he’s played 5 minutes this season in the PL!) to get a nod, even for a few minutes, it just made the selection of Maddison pointless for me and a token gesture

England had 27% possession .

It’s not even like it’s an insult, we played well with out the ball, combining counter attacking and clinical passing at times in the first half.

But even Karl Pilkington wouldn’t stretch himself to say we played ‘possession football’ and nor should we have it would have been a silly tactic to try to implement

It did for Maddison, plenty of time for other players at ‘bigger’ Clubs telling him if he wants a regular England place he needs play for one of them.

Just look at the other no game time players included from bigger Clubs. P

How Barkley got in ageadnof Maddison on current form I’ll never know.

Mersey, one word: Chelsea.

posted on 16/10/18

Exactly and that’s what Maddison will need to do to cement and England place.

You are so miserable Maguire has cemented a first team England spot by moving to ohh he is still here and Chillwell has got an England spot by moving to eerh he is still here. Gray gets his move and plays for England.
The issue is yours not Southgate like the 15 pass move if it was Brazil France or Spain you would be raving about it but because its England and how Puel wants to play well you get my point

posted on 16/10/18

Chilwell was dropped until other injuries, he and Gray were obviously only included to sell tickets for the match at the King Power.

Both have the added benefit of playing for Southgate in the under 21’s as well but others will still get in ahead of them.

TBF True Blue Gray is miles away from being good enough for England. I'm still a long way from being convinced he is good enough for Leicester.

Chilwell has snuck in through the back door due to injuries etc. but I reckon he's done enough to consider himself unlucky if he's not selected for the next squad.

The LB position is far from nailed down and although Shaw and Rose are definitely ahead of him in the pecking order he is catching up and is only 21 of course.

I agree and that's despite playing for Leicester.
