Thoughts on the game fellas?
It was as dull as ditch water. I don't think Frank intends to use 3 4 3 that often.
Silva and Mendy improve us. James has really improved last few games and frankly it's about time someone got on the end of his crosses.
But until we look good defending in a 4 2 3 1 or 4 3 3 I remain concerned
Thoughts on the weekend boys? I thought it was very depressing and the time I’ve not been able to defend frank

Boring as hell but it seems Frank has decided to go back to badics to stop the goals going in. He is trying to get the team to function with balance if that means going a big too defensive at first, then I get it.
Bottom lime is that if we can kerp clean sheets we will do a lot better this season than last season. It's worth the price of being boring to watch for a few games if it means we eventually we find that balance.
That game was among THE worst i've ever watched...& i've watched a lot (as i'm sure many of us have) both live & on TV
It was beyond dreadful as a sporting spectacle...but we didn't lose & we did keep a clean sheet
I'm all out of positives now

No way.
I have to go back to the late 70s to find a performance as bad as that game Brummie.

I must agree with Brum, that game at the Etihad is definately the worst EVER !,my cats still pass by me with eyes wide open !
Okay. Now that we've agreed that City game was a joke... how do you guys feel about our last match? Doesn't bode well when it seems your answer is "I've seen worse"

It was a dreadful game from both teams. I just think those games happen at times and in isolation is nothing to worry about.
Upside we got a point more than last season, same with the Southampton game too, but for me that game is a far more worrisome example than the United game.

You wouldn't have thought the performance from that 1 nil defeat could have been worse than the 6 nil defeat there would you - but my goodness the apathy from the team right up to the manager was appalling!

I still think there were periods in that 6 0 loss where we were decent. City just scored from every shot.
The 1 0 defeat at City made we do a 180 degree turn on Conte who I was backing till then.

Same here, I felt he was using the team for his own personal agenda!
It was wholly unacceptable!
Despite all the ultra-pessimism about us on the site at the moment I'm going to be positive and say that I think we can and will go up several gears over the course of this season.
Defence finally looks sorted or at least markedly improved with the inclusion of Mendy and Silva. And Chilwell finally solves the problem LB spot that's haunted us since Ashely Cole left.
Midfield is a concern and I'm not sure we have the right players, especially Jorginho, but I'm assuming that Billy Gilmour replaces him soon enough. Kante doesn't look like the player of seasons gone by sadly. I'm not sure why Kovacic isn't featuring recently, he's needed.
In attack we haven't quite clicked yet but it's not too surprising when you consider that Pulisic and Ziyech have just come back. Pulisic will be our main attacking threat as soon as he's able to find some form again after his injury. And hopefully Timo benefits from that.
Giroud is another one who isn't featuring enough. With Timo still finding his feet I think that Giroud should be getting on the pitch more than he has. And I'd like to see Timo and Giroud tried up front together. Even just for part of a match.

this is the difference..the only thing worth mentioning on our performance was Mendy..barring the err brainfart thing
The thing that most disappointed me was that game was there for the taking, I kept thinking every 5 minutes,
“Right here we go, start knocking the ball about and turn the screw” and it never happened. And it looked like they were trying harder but were equally as awful. I thought the longer the game went on we should have grown into it but we faded despite never being any good to begin with lol
Having said that a perfect performance would have been football like our first half against Southampton, then solid like Utd. Mix that over the two half’s and we’d be cruising, as it was, it was just devoid of any character or ideas

I'm optimistic for the future as well but I feel this squad won't start coming into their own until next season.
Frank is still wet behind the ears as a manager and we knew that would be the case. This season for me is about Frank growing as a manager and the squad integrating half a dozen new players!
Brighton are to offer England Under-21s full-back Tariq Lamptey, 20, a new contract amid interest from Bayern Munich. (Sun)

WTF - They only signed him a few months ago!!
Very satisfactory 1st half. Still got ghosts of Southampton in my head for the 2nd half though!
