He hasn't really been truly consistent since 2012, United fans are often criticising him for lacking end product which is ironic.

The real mistake was letting KDB go a week earlier.

He's never had a run of games in his best position at United. But he's been decent overall.

He's never looked inconsistent for us as far as I'm concerned and to relieve him of his position for Oscar, who never came close to replacing him, was complete negligence for me.

The sale of De Bryune was another straw that helped turn me against JM as well.

The second half of 12/13 his influence faded a bit and it was Hazard delivering the goods mainly, he has still never to this day hit the heights of the first half of that season were you could have made a genuine case for him being the leagues best.

When i watch KDB it hurts like hell knowing we had and lost him, with Mata i just don't feel it, he gave us his very best and hasn't given United even half of what he gave us despite being there twice as long.

I haven't made a case for him being the leagues best have I?

I said he's far more consistent than Willian and Pedro and if I could have him in the team over either of those two I wouldn't hesitate!

The loss of both players (and others) though have one common denominator!

Im talking in general Brummie, in 2012 a solid case could be made for Mata being the leagues best, if anyone suggests that now they would get laughed at.

I agree with Willian but i seem to be one of the few that love Pedro, lets just say there's a reason he was in the greatest team of this era, some would say ever!

I like Pedro and at the current time would be starting him in front of Willian, but don't think he's consistent when starting all the time.

As well as saying, there's a reason he was part of one of the greatest teams of modern time, you could also argue there was a reason that, that team allowed him to go - after all he wasn't a regular starter was he!

For me Mata has a different dimension to his game.

Also, do you think it's a coincidence that his drop off (if that's what you'd like to call it) coincided with the arrival of Mourinho who stiffles creative players - pretty much like he tried to do with Joe Cole?

That"s a valid question but at the same time he started to fade under Rafa.

Although i do take the point he hasn't had the suitable managers to get the best out of him.

The funny thing is in hindsight it's not looked like a bad deal. At the time I completely trusted Mourinho so didn't question it and was advocating for the funds it raised to sign Matic (who Jose really needed at the time). But even since he's left it's not been terribly damaging.

Because of his lack of pace combined with his defensive lapses he only really works in two roles, either the playmaker in a 4-2-3-1 or on the wing in a heavy possession based 4-3-3 (as LVG discovered), he doesn't have it in him to drop down the pitch like Silva has done with City since Pep took over. Even had Mourinho kept him, there's a very strong possibility he'd of left through the same exit door Conte showed Oscar.

In hindsight he's also quite lucky United were the club who took him. Because their transfer policy has been so random since 2013 tactically they've got a jack of all trades/masters of none squad, they can play pretty much any formation they like, which means Mata will always have a place there as the go-to 4-2-3-1 guy.

Brum first 10 mins I said martial is their best player, my old man said mata was.
I think we covered it with those two.

Weird that two players Jose treats poorly are saving his job

He’s scored some brilliant goals for us but he’s never reached his level of influence that he had at Chelsea, he was incredible during his two best seasons.

Weird thing is he doesn't normally start for Utd against good teams. It was like Jose finally came to his senses just in time for him to play against us. He always seems to be one of their best attacking players.

Similar story with Martial I guess.
