They are imprisoning innocent people who they deem a threat to the government. Any opposition opposed against the government is handled swiftly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you saying it’s ok then or just stating the obvious?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I don’t condone it, so the latter.

Can't believe the sh!te im reading in this thread. China are literally imprisoning innocent people because of their religion/race, and some are justifying it because one of them *might* have become a terrorist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

People openly support Tommy Robinson on here, I’m not surprised at.

Back to the issue, let’s take a look at what some people are openly supporting on here.

“Thousands of guards carrying spiked clubs, tear gas, and stun guns surveil the government’s “students,” who are held in buildings ringed with razor wire and infrared cameras, according to a report published Wednesday by the French news service Agence France-Presse.

AFP journalists who reviewed more than 1,500 publicly available government documents also describe disturbing purchases made by government agencies that oversee the so-called education centers: 2,768 police batons, 550 electric cattle prods, 1,367 pairs of handcuffs, and 2,792 cans of pepper spray.”

“In one of the government documents, officials argued that to build new, better Chinese citizens, the reeducation centers must first “break their lineage, break their roots, break their connections, and break their origins.”

“Of particular concern is the mass, arbitrary, internment of as many as 1 million or more Uyghurs and other Muslim ethnic minorities in ‘‘political reeducation’’ camps in western China. Reports indicate that this may be the largest incarceration of an ethnic minority population since World War II, and that it may constitute crimes against humanity.”

KFC, like I said in my post I'm not condoning the govt. It's disturbing.

There has been a real history of both crime and terror by the Uyghurs. It's been building up to something like this for years.

They were briefly an independent nation before being taken over by the CCP. And then forced to be second class citizens in the area while the CCP had Hanging Chinese migrate into the area to change the ethnic make up ofnthe place. This and several laws and oppression has led recently to some attacks. But that is to some extent natural. A group that is attacked at oppressed will have people fight back.

Not these camps could be considered what happened to natives in nations like Australia or US and Canada. And the other obvious connection being Germany at one time.

I didn’t see your post to be honest mate, I was typing mine when you’ed already posted. Just checked back now.

If there has been crime and terror then it should obviously be stamped about. Can you post a link? Not asking for proof, I’m just genuinely interested in the history of the issue.

If the stories are true and we have the potential internment of one million Uighurs, then crime and terror aren’t the issue in my opinion.

Kash - I am allowed to practice my faith. I'm just not allowed to mingle in a gathering amongst the locals. It's the same for my Christian friends who are also foreigners. I'll let you guess why.
--------------------------
Yeah i'm just talking from a personal level. Just dont see the appeal myself living in a country where you can't mingle with other Muslims. How did you end up there?

posted on 25/10/18

Oh, in a mosque it would be fine. You can also say hello to the cameras there. And some are there aren't even Muslim but they'll be there acting like one just to keep an eye on things.

I am here due to my wife being from here and get her into the UK isn't simple. If it were, I'd have been back by now.

You care to amend your incorrect statement, and do not suggest for one minute I am all right with something like that or would agree with it.

LQ - laws a floated here. The only law not to break is don't go against the government or make it loose face, and secondly the rich. Crimes happen here but they are generally not widely reported or stats put up. As a foreigner you're safe from most of it other than scammers at tourist places.

Peks - while you praise the Chinese government and are quick to point the flaws or western nations, thanks Chinese are anything but innocent. People go missing not just due to standing out but also due to corruption.

The different ethnic groups are a minority compared to the Han and have had most of their own culture wiped out. One of the tension that has happened in that area with the Uighers are that the Hans who, by given encouragement by the government and financial aid to move there are given preference and have more rights than the Uighers, despite it being an "autonomous region".
---------
Crime happens, its safer in certain parts but you're kind of in a bubble as a foreigner. But I've been here long enough to have been threatened to be stabbed. If you see a man walking around with a newspaper under his arm, best get out as he'll most likely have a knife.

I really can't believe there are people on this board that are thinking this "re-education" camp is a good thing. But then again it isn't their "group" being targeted. When it is their group they're up in arms about their rights. It's no different to forcing a religion onto someone. I bet if that were happening in say Muslim country with the Christians or other minorities there being "re-educated" into Muslims, people like LQ and Peks might not have the same view about this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I do not or would ever support such a thing you shouldn’t say things like that about a person.

No worries.

Anyone who thinks a re education camp is in anyway normal or acceptable is a fruitcake and a dangerous one.
